Position Title

Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life - Residence Education

Job Description

The Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life for Residence Education is a live-in position responsible for the leadership and development of a comprehensive residential education program, which is focused on community relationships, student success, and retention. This position is responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of professional and student hall staff. This position directly manages Scanlon Hall, a residence hall that houses primarily first-year students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Directly supervises the Residence Life Coordinator for Vartabedian Hall and Resident Assistants for Scanlon Hall.
  • Oversees and coordinates staff selection, training, and supervision of all departmental Resident Assistants.
  • Manage Scanlon Hall, including, but not limited to, room assignments, room changes, room inventories, key control, and educational programming for that building.
  • Develops, implements, and assesses strategies that cultivate a strong residential community and positive university commitment among residents that also demonstrates value for service, diversity, and respect.
  • Creates positive, retention-focused partnerships and practices with Academic Affairs, Admissions, Athletics, Physical Plant, Student Affairs departments, and other campus and community groups.
  • Designs, implements, and manages the departmental programming model to support in-hall programs for residents.
  • Participates in the student conduct process, serving as hearing officer, and providing counseling and conflict mediation.
  • Coordinates departmental assessment in alignment with division Learning Outcomes and departmental measures.
  • Advises the Residence Hall Association, National Residence Hall Honorary – Griffon Chapter, and Resident Assistant Council.
  • Assists the Director in the administration of the department including representation at University recruitment events, committees, functions, sporting events, and training.
  • Serves as an on-call responder to discipline and emergency situations in the halls. Participates in rotation of 24-hour on-call emergency assistance.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Residence Life Coordinators, Resident Assistants
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in student development or a related field
  • Supervisory experience in residence halls; or,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
