Academic Advisor II
The function of this position is to research problems, find
solutions/alternatives, and requires comprehensive knowledge of all
College and University policies and procedures as they relate to
student, faculty, and academic affairs. As appropriate, consults
with the Chair and Graduate Coordinator for input and ensures both
are fully informed regarding actions that require their
Undergraduate advising for the UF Online distance education program
for Microbiology and Cell Science. This includes, but is not
limited to, 1) preparation and dissemination of academic advisement
for all students in the Department for each of the three semesters
(fall-spring-summer); 2) correspondence and assistance for students
with registration and curriculum problems; 3) consultation with
other administrators regarding student concerns and/or issues; 4)
ensuring that all students are registered for appropriate courses;
5) take responsibility for on-line drop/add, requesting new
sections, and revising schedules as needed; and 6) take
responsibility for maintaining electronic and paper files of
Incumbent designs and develops a comprehensive, independent
recruitment program for Microbiology and Cell Science UF online
students including development of a departmental/program display,
brochures, and handbooks. This will require travel to Florida
community colleges once the current pandemic subsides
Assist in advising non-UF Online students when other advisors are
Work with Department Chair, Undergraduate Coordinator, and
Administrative Specialist to develop and implement educational and
administrative rules and/or policies for recommending new and
improved programs and/or techniques for effective delivery of

Compiles enrollment, admission and graduation data as needed.
Gathers data regarding FTE and SCH for the undergraduate programs.
Serves as liaison with the UF Student Financial Affairs Office and
assists students in applying for and receiving benefits, including
undergraduate traineeship and fellowships. Advertises and
distributes information regarding College scholarship program,
ensures scholarship applications are complete, prepares letters for
notification to students of the outcome of their
Commensurate with experience and education.
Master’s degree in education, counseling, or an academic field
directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and one
year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education,
counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s
area of responsibility and two years of relevant experience.
A B.S. or M.S. degree in the life sciences is preferred.
