Job Description:

Fairfield University seeks a second Student Success Coach who will apply knowledge of best practices in guiding and mentoring adult online learners. In the true spirit of our Jesuit Tradition & Values, Cura Personalis or care of the whole person, the role of the Success Coach is to act as a resource to online graduate students regarding personal, educational, and professional goals.

This position will report to the Vice President of Online Strategy & Innovation and will receive coaching/leadership direction from the Student Success Coach (I) who coordinates office retention initiatives. The person to fill this role will have a demonstrated ability to work independently and self-manage their student case load. The incumbent must have advanced communication skills because of the nature of the role.

40% – Coaching & Mentoring: Monitor assigned students) with onboarding, orientation, interventions, and academic performance with faculty partners. Provide individualized support for newly admitted students. Integrate best practices and strategies dealing with adult mentoring and appreciative advising techniques to carry out proactive, one-on-one student conversations that acknowledge the unique needs of online learners. Facilitate communications to assigned individuals and respond to questions from our resource account in a timely manner.

25% – Programming and Advocacy: In support of expanding and easing access for online students, work to improve programs and develop initiatives that encourage Graduate Online student engagement with academic success resources and student development opportunities. Work with the Online Student Success Team, and internal / cross-campus colleagues, including advisors and department contacts, to develop and implement programmatic interventions to support the academic success and retention of online students. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant campus policies and procedures.

15% – Support student success using online systems: Use a variety of technologies (such as ZOOM, Banner, Starfish, Teams, and Blackboard) to create meaningful interactions and support for students. Use internal reporting and faculty enquiries to identify and outreach towards at-risk students. Determine risk factors, monitor student progress, and provide proactive referrals.

15% – Campus Collaboration and Professional Development: Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with colleagues, learning designers, program directors, staff, and faculty to support student success. Develop and maintain involvement with appropriate professional organizations for on-going growth opportunities and in support of advancing the work of online learning/mentoring.

5% – Other: Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team or direct superior.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning

  • Familiarity with current trends and developments in higher education

  • Experience working with university student support services

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in Student Advising, preferably through a university advising center

  • Experience in Online Education, Learning Design and/or Graduate Student Life

  • Experience working with or studying Healthcare Administration or Cyber Security

Pay Range: $55,000-$60,000

Location: Fairfield, CT. The first two weeks the incumbent will come into the office each day. Following this period of on-boarding, this position will require the individual to come into the office twice a week and additional days as requested due to university events or visits. This position has the possibility of going fully remote in the 2nd year of hiring as determined by student volume.
