Position Summary 

 

The School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington is currently seeking applications for a Director of Graduate Programs which includes a faculty appointment as a Non-Tenure Track (NTT) Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice, or as a Tenured Associate or Full Professor, dependent on qualifications.  

 

Position Description 

 

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service as well as a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. 

This position provides day-to-day management and leadership for Graduate Programs in the School of Social Work and serves as University Graduate Advisor for the MSW program. The position includes a faculty appointment as a Non-Tenure Track (NTT) Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice, or as a Tenured Associate or Full Professor, dependent on qualifications.  

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborate with other members of the SSW Academic Affairs Leadership Team to develop and strengthen programs and processes to promote student success, student engagement, and a sense of belonging and connectedness among MSW students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Work with the relevant curriculum committees and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, to periodically review and revise MSW courses to ensure that they meet the highest standards for quality and meet standards set by the Council on Social Work Education. 
  • Provide leadership and assistance in preparing for the reaccreditation of the MSW program through the Council on Social Work Education.  
  • Serve as the key contact for the MSW program for Changes of Degree, Plan of Study, or Program of Work for Degree, Readmissions Applications, and Graduate Petitions for exceptions to existing degree completion criteria, or procedures. 
  • Oversee development or facilitation of new or innovative curriculum, certificates, dual degree programs, and other innovative programs to enhance course offerings and support program growth. 
  • Serve as the Chair of the Committee on Graduate Studies and the Subcommittee on Graduate Studies/Subcommittee on Undergraduate Studies within the School of Social Work. 
  • Supervise the Graduate Programs Administrative Assistant, Graduate Interns, and provide direction to the Graduate Student Leader (GSL) Program. 
  • Maintain an appropriate teaching load and meet annual scholarship and service guidelines commensurate with the level of appointment as a Non-Tenure Track or Tenured faculty member in the School of Social Work. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Required qualifications 

  • Master of Social Work (MSW Degree) 

 

Preferred qualifications 

  • PhD in Social Work or other related discipline 
  • 2+ years of post-MSW practice experience 
  • 2+ years teaching experience in higher education 
  • Familiarity with best practices in online and on-campus teaching modalities 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities 
  • Experience working in a large academic school or college 
  • Experience developing strategic plans, establishing priorities and goals, and ensuring achievement of goals 
  • Experience in effectively managing budgets and other resources 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously 
  • Knowledge of Canvas, Microsoft Teams, and other multimedia educational tools 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment 
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional development
