The College of Lake County is currently looking for a Career Programs Manager at our Lakeshore Campus. The position is responsible for overseeing career and programmatic initiatives of the Illinois Community College Board ( ICCB ) Workforce Equity Initiative ( WEI ) grant. The Career Programs Manager contributes to student success through promoting WEI programs, advising prospective students, and targeted advising for students who enroll in the grant programs. The position also supports partnerships with, community partners supporting students in career placement, essential skills, study skills, internships, and other opportunities, assisting WEI marketing and community outreach, and supervising a team of dedicated WEI staff members. Under the supervisor of the Lakeshore Dean, the Career Program manager will oversee, refine, and expand WEI career programs; coordinate and implement projects through cross-functional collaboration with faculty and staff across the College; and support practices, programs, and initiatives that may include, but are not limited to, consultation and execution of academic programs, enrollment marketing, report completion, data management, and special projects; leading or serving on pertinent task forces, committees, and working groups; and, collaborating with external partners.

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  3. Ability to plan and prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making capabilities.
  4. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethnic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
  5. Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours consistent with events or student needs.
  6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other similar software.
  7. Ability to develop and enhance collaborative partnerships to aid in recruitment of students.
  8. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

*This is a grant funded position; continued employment in this position is based on external funding sources. Pay Rate $50,837/Yr. Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Location Lakeshore Total Hours per week 45+ Work Schedule

Project Management/Program Development : 50%
  1. Mange key career program projects for the WEI Grant. These projects will include the implementation of several components of the grant and programs participating in it.
  2. Assist the Dean in contract management with third-party providers, grant management, and other contracted services.
  3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of programs included in the grant and all policies/procedures that may affect career-bound students.
  4. Works directly with providers/clients/students to provide the range of services and assistance specified under the workforce equity initiative grant, adhering to operating procedures and funding requirements.
  5. Prepare reports on the progress of student recruitment and recommend ideas for evaluation toward improvement.


Collaboration with key stakeholders: 25%
  1. In collaboration with Educational Affairs coordinate WEI programs, expansion, and revision to better serve participants.
  2. Serve as the grant’s liaison with key College departments for initiatives related to enrollment marketing and managing special projects.
  3. Assist the dean and faculty by serving as a liaison to local business, industry, government, and community leaders to understand current and future trends relating to workforce training.
  4. Actively engage with organizations that promote Lake County economic development to learn about the economic trends in the county and how those trends affect the grant’s offerings.
  5. Assist department chairs with recruiting/securing off-site partners for internship placements for students; coordinate meetings between partners, the dean, and academic departments.
  6. Serve as a liaison between program faculty and key departments in Student Services (recruiting, advising, etc.) regarding key programs and initiatives from the grant.
  7. Coordinate grant disbursements in partnership with the grant manager and financial aid to support smooth operations.

Research and analysis: 10%
  1. Support strategic exploration in key career and technical education departments for program creation and revisions. Assist career program faculty in program development, revision, and exploring new opportunities within the grant requirements.
  2. Define needs for market research and coordinate that research with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning and Research and other sources of market intelligence.
  3. Assist the program department chairs with the development of strategic marketing plans; high school and other community partners; and work with the College of Lake County’s Career and Job Placement Center with the coordination of various outreach activities.
  4. Survey alumni, employers, and career advisory committees to identify current trends and employment information that allows for overall continuous improvement the division’s career programs.

Program Support: 13%
  1. Assist the program department chairs with the development of strategic marketing plans; assist with community outreach, high school, and other community partners; and work with the College of Lake County’s Career and Job Placement Center with the coordination of various outreach activities.
  2. Assist the dean with all required reporting to maintain assessments, and evaluation processes to ensure they are current and complete.
  3. Assist faculty in supporting and evaluating student needs.
