The University of Washington Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is seeking a full-time Director of Osher Center for Integrative Health. The position will be on the regular (clinician-educator) teacher track with a faculty title of associate professor or professor without tenure due to source of funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position has a 12-month (July 1 – June 30) service period and is based at the main campus in Seattle, WA. The expected start date is December 1, 2021, or soon thereafter.

Key Goals:

The key goals of this position will be to:

  • Develop the Osher Center for Integrative Health to become a robust, comprehensive, primary care-based integrative medicine clinical program, focused on providing high quality, evidence-based integrative care, that is collaborative in nature and based in the values of the Department of Family Medicine,  
  • Lead and develop an integrative health education program for learners and health care professionals, including implementation of an integrative medicine fellowship, as part of the comprehensive approach, and
  • Facilitate Integrative Health research activities for faculty and learners

Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following job duties:

  • Provide leadership to faculty, trainees, staff, and administrators within the Osher Center and collaborate with relevant leaders to achieve the Key Goals outlined above,
  • Manage the Osher Center physicians and clinical staff, ensuring high quality care that is patient centered and in line with the values of the Osher Center,
  • Establish and oversee Integrative Health research activities to support the mission and growth of the Center,
  • Represent the Osher Center of Integrative Health in Seattle at UW to the broader, international Osher Center Collaborative. The Director will attend Osher Collaborative meetings and host the Osher Collaborative meeting when it occurs in Seattle,
  • Assist the Vice Chair of Finance and Administration with supervising the Clinical Programs Manager, an administrative staff role, who will devote ~50% FTE to the management of the Osher Center operations, based upon need and funding,
  • Work closely with the DFM vice chair to manage budget and implement Osher Center strategic goals,
  • Support the DFM Chair to lead and organize the Osher Center Advisory Board, helping with member recruitment, cultivation, and engagement,
  • Participate in efforts to raise funds for the Osher Center. Lead / support efforts to create donor reports regarding Osher Center accomplishments and grant reporting,
  • Lead and plan for a robust Integrative Health education program, including an integrative medicine fellowship program. Lead efforts to train learners and health care professionals on integrative health mechanisms, treatments and results. Give presentations on treatments, research and outcomes associated with integrative health,
  • Stay current on integrative health developments, treatments, and the latest technologies to support integrative health. Attend conferences to represent the Osher Center on the national stage, and
  • Actively participate in the clinical activities of the Department of Family Medicine, with a commitment to the principles of primary care practice and integrative medicine and the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to clinical work and expertise
Qualifications
  • MD, DO, PhD, PharmD or other doctoral terminal degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field

  • Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine

  • Board certified by the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABoIM) or ABoIM eligible with a commitment to board certification within a year of appointment start

  • At least five years of experience practicing integrative medicine, with minimum two years in a leadership role

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduate of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
