POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor in Motor Control and Learning/Movement Neuroscience

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Health and Human Services (HHS) where 16 tenure-track faculty, three full-time instructors and over 20 part-time instructors serve a diverse population of over 1000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department is located in Solano Hall with distinct laboratory spaces for Motor Learning & Control, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Strength and Conditioning, Sport Psychology, Athletic Training/Care and Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE).

Undergraduate students can obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in one of two majors: Exercise Science or Kinesiology. The Exercise Science major is structured to provide students a strong foundation in science (physiology, biology, chemistry, biomechanics) as it relates to the human body and exercise. Exercise Science majors can choose to pursue one of two concentrations including Clinical Exercise & Rehabilitation or Health Fitness/Strength Conditioning. The Kinesiology major is structured to provide students a multi-disciplinary approach to the student of human movement and a strong foundation in the physical and social sciences as it relates to movement and physical activity. The Kinesiology major offers five concentrations including Athletic Administration, Athletic Care, Athletic Coaching Education, Physical Activity and Wellness, and Physical Education Teacher Education.

The Department of Kinesiology also offers a Master of Science program with two concentrations: Exercise Science and Movement Studies. Graduate students in the Movement studies concentration can specialize in Sport Psychology or Sport Pedagogy. Graduate students in the Exercise Science concentration can specialize in Strength and Conditioning (including a Personal Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Certificate).

JOB DUTIES:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in motor learning and control, motor neuroscience, and related topics to a diverse student population
  
• Develop and maintain an active, collaborative program of research/scholarly activities
  
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students
  
• Supervise graduate research projects/theses
  
• Actively contribute and collaborate in both internal (Department, College and University) and external (Community) professional service activities
  
• Seek and apply for internal and/or external grant funding
  
  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  
  
• Doctorate in Kinesiology, Neuroscience, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Psychology, or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the degree must be completed by August 2023 to remain eligible for continued employment.
  
• Expertise in motor learning and control, and neuroplasticity
  
• Ability to effectively teach a diverse population of students
  
• Research experience in clinical and/or applied movement contexts
  
• Record of scholarship in respective area of specialization
  
• A commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship and service
  
  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  
  
• Ability to use innovative and diverse pedagogy
  
• Knowledge and/or experience of evidence-based teaching practices
  
• Evidence of collaboration with diverse students and faculty
  
• 1 or more years of post-doctoral research experience in academic, government or industry
  
• Experience or planned research and teaching interest using human neurophysiological techniques including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroencephalography (EEG) and/or electromyography (EMG)
  
• Record of internal and/or external grant activities
