About the Opportunity:

The Product Manager will serve as part of a team that is responsible for developing and launching new academic programs and educational experiences for Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies.

Responsibilities:
20% Managing the Roadmap

In collaboration with academic partners, internal teams and in consultation with CPS leadership, manage and overall new product development and launch process for individual products to ensure timely completion of new program and course proposals. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Academic and CPS Global Operations, maintain an up-to-date product roadmap and delivery schedule for all new programs and offerings within the college. Ensure regular and timely updates on status of all products through enterprise systems (i.e. Clarizen, Asana, Jira) and other systems used by CPS and Northeastern global university system.

50% Project Management

Take the lead on managing projects, serving as an early contributor to scoping and discovery of new programs and learning products; especially where non-traditional program delivery models apply. Manage proposals through initial rounds of development / sprints while building or bringing together the appropriate academic and operational team to support the vision and goal of a product long term. He/she will work collaboratively with faculty, program administrators, curriculum designers, registrar and enrollment units, and various campus leaders to ensure excellence and quality in all new programs at Northeastern:
  • Partner with academic and administrative leaders to document business and product vision and strategy
  • Develop and maintain a project plan in conjunction with academic operations, faculty, and college leadership; regularly update to key partners and stakeholders
  • Guide a cross-functional team in planning, prioritization, and product delivery
  • Define and measure project plan impact, and monitor performance of initiatives and communicate performance metrics to key stakeholders
  • Leverage data to understand risks, impacts, scope and priorities of our business objectives, and enable the team to drive result
  • Manage project success criterion as defined by project charter
  • Work in partnership with design and development leaders to ensure timely delivery of new products

20% Scoping and Requirements Gathering

Under the direction of Senior Director, Academic and Global CPS Operations, track initial project scoping and requirements gathering of new work following defined CPS processes, which includes:
  • Defining project specifics and timeline
  • Establishing project stakeholder goals and new program launch objectives
  • Background and strategic alignment of offerings with CPS leadership
  • Business, technical and user assumptions
  • Attend ideation sessions and collect feedback for college review of new program and product ideas
  • Detailing the unknowns, important questions and items that need to be researched before design and development work can begin
  • Ensuring that the strategy and work are aligned and within scope

10% Special Projects, as assigned

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be creative problem solvers who are able to lead high- performing cross functional teams that bring their vision to reality. Candidates must feel comfortable both working with the “big picture” strategy stakeholders while also be able to dive deep into executing the specific details of a product. This position reports and works in close collaboration with the Senior Director, Academic and CPS Global Operations.

This person will be responsible for and/or demonstrate the following skills or experiences:
  • In collaboration with faculty, leadership and in consultation with academic units, ensure timely completion of new programs, while maintaining a high-quality end product. Proactively implement needed updates, changes, upgrades as necessary to ensure the development and launch process is on the cutting edge of best practices in program development in higher-education and supports the mission and goals of CPS.
  • Under the leadership of the Senior Director, Academic and CPS Global Operations, will provide strong project management skills to ensure appropriate resource allocation and the on-time design, development and launch of programs and courses in market.
  • Engage and foster relationships with academic leaders, faculty and campus community. Trouble-shoot issues as they arise at any point in the program development and launch process.
  • Experience with new program design and market launch, evidenced-based development of educational programs delivered in a variety of formats and geographic regions (executive models, online, hybrid, non-credit and professional development experiences, international programs), or experience working in curriculum design strongly recommended.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, enthusiasm, positive attitude, ability to communicate with peers and colleagues around difficult and challenging discussions in an objective and proactive manner
  • Develop with team and leadership innovative systems for monitoring and assessing new launch processes
  • Engage and foster relationships with faculty and campus community. Trouble-shoot issues as they arise at any point in the program development and proposal approval process.

    This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Product Management, Project Management, or a related field and/or demonstrated equivalent work experience. Background in a professional studies discipline with specialization on the field of online and experiential education preferred although professional experience can be an equivalent. The candidate must have a minimum of 4 years' experience with a track record of program innovation and course models, and an understanding of adult and international student learners. He/she must be able to work strategically with many constituencies, peers, faculty, students, campus administrators and leadership etc. Teamwork and strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. He/she must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; and ability to understand the online design processes. A thorough knowledge and experience with best-in-class approaches to online learning required.
