JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Biology at California State University San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Biology with research expertise in evidence-based STEM pedagogy to begin August 2022. CSUSB is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution and is committed to building a diverse and inclusive faculty. We are interested in experimental biologists who will be able to design course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) for their own courses as well as in collaboration with current faculty members. The Department of Biology is committed to student success and seeks a colleague who will employ evidence-based methodologies to promote equity and improve learning outcomes in diverse classrooms. The successful candidate will design, teach, and coordinate the one-year introductory biology series for majors (BIOL 2010 and BIOL 2020); this will include working with other faculty and graduate teaching assistants. We also expect opportunities to develop and teach upper division courses in their area of expertise.

The successful candidate will be expected to apply for extramural funding, conduct and publish research in evidence-based best practices for post-secondary STEM education , especially for first generation and underrepresented minority (URM) students, including student outcomes from CUREs. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to service and shared governance to the department, college, and university. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology or related field; postdoctoral experience is highly desired.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Ph.D. in in biology or related field is required by time of appointment
  • Publication record in evidence-based STEM education
  • Experimental expertise applicable to undergraduate laboratory design
  • Demonstrated training in or experience implementing active learning and project-based university instruction

    • Postdoctoral experience
    • Potential for developing an externally funded research program in STEM education

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Department of Biology has 17 tenure-track/tenured faculty with a variety of research interests, as well as lecturers and technicians who provide pivotal support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for 3D printing, DNA sequencing, cell culture and stem cell research, animal care, plant growth and a herbarium. In addition, the department has access to the College of Natural Science's Electron Microscope and Image Analysis Center (EMIAC).
