Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Marketing, the Communications Business Analyst supports business and marketing strategy through use of data insights and external research. The ideal candidate is a team player who loves problem-solving and collaboration and who won’t be shy to ask questions or voice opinions. The Business Analyst works directly with the AVP as well as with others in a range of areas: Marketing, Social Media, Digital Strategy, Creative and Content. Creating both standing and ad hoc or special reports, the Business Analyst also serves as project lead to external research agencies and efforts and offers data-informed insights to University Communications team. The Analyst also works collaboratively to produce performance reports for University Communications platforms and products.

Responsibilities:

The Business Analyst would be expected to:

  • Provide regular business intelligence and insight to assist in development, assessment, evolution of communications and marketing programs and platforms.
  • Assist in development of presentations that use data to present findings or inform strategy
  • Apply data insights and recommendations to evaluate performance, refine tactics and inform longer term thinking
  • Identify and share relevant benchmarking and best practice market intelligence
  • Work to create approaches that measure the impact of our communications efforts with the University’s strategic target audiences, including overall perception, resonance of key strategic content themes, efficacy of marketing efforts including paid advertising, and other ad hoc research efforts.  
  • Partner with creative, marketing, news teams to assess and test content and creative approaches. This might include A/B testing, creative testing, UX assessment, message testing (including audience insights).
  • Work with University Communications teams to run quarterly performance reports and provide ad hoc reports or measurement programs as appropriate
  • Build data visualizations and reports using qualitative and quantitative data
  • Provide ongoing support to inform leadership decisions and priorities, such as: Supporting larger or contracted research projects as appropriate; periodically assessing and reporting on relevant competitive data; and developing appropriate metrics dashboards

Skills and Competencies:

  • Highly collaborative
  • Strong data visualization skills required
  • Ability to extract meaningful inferences to inform business decisions is key
  • Knowledge of research sampling and statistics a plus
  • Software competencies desired:
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Google Analytics
  • Familiar with Facebook Insights, Twitter and Instagram analytics
  • Presentation software (Keynote preferred)
  • Would be expected to work with: Parse.ly or similar; salesforce social studio
  • Experience with other data visualization software may be helpful

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Six years of experience, or Master's degree with at least two years of experience is required.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $70K-$80K commensurate with level and experience.
