Mary Miles Bibb Postdoctoral/Post-MFA Teaching Fellowship - Framingham State University

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Mary Miles Bibb Postdoctoral/Post-MFA Teaching Fellowship program recruits promising recent Ph.D. or terminal degree candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to and support for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) groups through their teaching and/or scholarship for a two-year appointment at Framingham State University (FSU). BIPOC candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Mary Miles Bibb, who graduated from FSU in 1843, was the first Black graduate of the University and was one of the first Black women to teach in North America. The Mary Miles Bibb Teaching Fellowship program is designed to honor her legacy as an abolitionist and a woman who dedicated her life to the safety and education of fugitive slaves. The program brings scholars to the University with the ultimate goal of changing the professoriate at FSU and beyond.

Mary Miles Bibb Fellowships are two-year positions open to faculty who will teach in one of the following major programs:

• Biology
  • Two positions; one Molecular biology and another Botany with ability to teach Plant Taxonomy
• Chemistry
  • First year majors sequence and upper division courses in inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, or analytical chemistry
• Criminology
  • Sociologically-oriented critical criminologist
• English
  • Film Studies and First-year Writing, with the ability to teach some of the following: Composition II, Global Cinema, African American Film, and Studies in Film (special topics)
• Mathematics
  • Focus open
• Political Science
  • A specialization in American politics with expertise in the area of Pre-Law a plus, with the ability to teach some of the following: Introduction to American Politics; Legislative Politics and Policy; Race, Politics, and the Law; and The Presidency: Politics and Administration.

Bibb fellows will teach three undergraduate courses each semester and will receive mentorship, and support from a team of University colleagues on teaching effectiveness, scholarship, professional service, and career development. They will also have access to training, mentorship and support through programs, workshops, and groups available through the Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching, Scholarship and Service; the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement; and the Office of Human Resources.

FSU is a teaching-centered institution with a long history of providing a top quality accessible and affordable education to its students. As an institution that is actively working on anti-racist initiatives, FSU seeks to support the growth and development of BIPOC faculty throughout their careers at FSU and beyond. These fellowships provide Bibb fellows with full-time salaries with benefits. They are two-year positions (each year is a nine-month position with an annualized salary).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD or a terminal degree, field open, completed at time of appointment and within the past three years. ABD candidates with expected date of completion in the first year of FSU employment will also be considered.
• A demonstrated commitment to anti-racist scholarship, curriculum, and/or pedagogies (please share in equity and inclusion statement).

This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with experience in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract (http://mscaunion.org/day-and-dgce-contracts/)

It is the policy of Framingham State University that all employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 before they begin employment.
