Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies (Tenure-Track)

The Environmental Science & Studies Programs at Lafayette College invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Environmental Studies beginning in July 2022. Environmental social scientists with training and research programs in fields such as, but not limited to, geography, sociology, political science, or anthropology are of particular interest. Geographic area of expertise is open.

The successful applicant will join a growing multidisciplinary program that integrates faculty, students, and Office of Sustainability staff to explore environmental issues on campus and beyond.  The Environmental Programs are interested in building a culturally diverse intellectual community.  We hope this position will complement existing program strengths and broaden the curriculum in Environmental Studies.

The successful candidate will have: a commitment to undergraduate, liberal-arts education; a strong interest in and/or experience working in collaborative interdisciplinary settings; a plan to develop an active research program that engages undergraduate students; a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in teaching introductory and capstone courses as well as an intermediate-level course in Environmental Policy and an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise.  A Ph.D. is required before the position begins, and post-doctoral research, teaching, or mentoring experience is helpful.

Candidates should submit: a letter of application that includes addressing how they will support Lafayette College's commitment to diversity and inclusion as articulated in the College’s diversity statement; a statement of teaching philosophy that includes approaches for reaching interdisciplinary audiences; a statement of research philosophy that includes plans for undergraduate involvement; vita; three confidential letters of reference via the Interfolio interface apply.interfolio.com/97643. For ABD applicants, one letter should be from the dissertation supervisor, indicating progress toward completion of the degree. For full consideration, please submit application materials by December 20th, 2021.  Please direct any questions to search committee chair, Megan Rothenberger, rothenbm@lafayette.edu.
