The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Social Work seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track position as Assistant Professor, starting August 2022. Responsibilities for this position include teaching three graduate and/or undergraduate courses in either in-person or online formats, an active research agenda and scholarship production, participating in service to the department and University, and student advisement. We are seeking candidates who can contribute to the department’s focus on trauma-informed care, through teaching and/or research in the following areas: trauma and stress, resiliency, mental health, poverty, inequality and oppression, or race and racism. Exceptional candidates in other areas may also be considered. For this position, we are seeking candidates who can teach courses at both BSW and MSW levels.

Seated in the College of Social and Behavioral Science, the department offers programs at BA and MSW levels with options for in-person and online teaching. It also offers the state’s only MSW program with a trauma-informed specialization, and has an established reputation on campus and throughout the state as a leading innovator on trauma, mental health, and social work practice. In recent years, the social work program has gained considerable interest from students within the state and throughout the country. We are therefore seeking enthusiastic candidates to help grow our department and to contribute to the development of our clinical programming and innovative research initiatives.

The University of Northern Iowa provides a high-quality education, purposefully guiding students to find and develop their strengths and prepare them for success after college. We have a bold vision that we will be a diverse and inclusive campus community that provides an engaged education empowering students to lead locally and globally. As we advance our work to become an equity-oriented institution and realize our vision, we seek to elevate the diversity of our faculty across disciplines, departments, and colleges and to build an inclusive teaching and learning environment. Equity vision hires will be supported by faculty on campus who are working to reimagine our curriculum and pedagogy and to build equitable practices for tenure and promotion; policy review, development and implementation; and student retention, persistence, and success. They will be welcomed to join these efforts.

Building on its historic excellence in teacher education, the university has developed outstanding programs in business, natural sciences, humanities and fine arts, and social and behavioral sciences with advanced degrees available in many programs. The University’s attractive size, approximately 10,000 students, allows UNI to offer faculty, facilities, and academic choices characteristic of a much larger university while retaining a friendly, small-college atmosphere on a park-like campus. UNI has been recognized for the past 18 years as one of the "Best Midwest Universities" by U.S. News & World Report. Located in Cedar Falls/Waterloo, the campus is comprised of more than 40 buildings on 940 acres. For more information, visit www.uni.edu.

The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program plus a PhD in social work or a related area required. If ABD, the PhD must be completed before the date of hire. DSW/PsyDs will be considered if they have a demonstrated record of research and peer-reviewed publications, along with an active research agenda.

Preference will be given to candidates with two years of post-MSW practice experience; who are willing to teach research courses; have previous teaching experience; have a demonstrated ability to teach online; and are willing to help the department in its potential development of a DSW program.

Applications received by January 25, 2022 will receive full consideration. To apply, visit http://jobs.uni.edu/. Application deadline is February 15, 2022. Final decisions will be made in April 2022 and dependent on University budgetary approval. Inquiries may be sent to Matthew Vasquez at 319-273-6249 or matthew.vasquez@uni.edu. Pre-employment background checks required.
