Position Description:

The Science and Mathematics faculty in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invite applications for an Instructional Professional position in Biology with a principal focus on organismal or molecular and cellular biology for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Expectations for this position include laboratory instruction, design of curriculum and instructional programs, modification of lab exercises and delivery of instruction, set-up and take down of labs, course management including grading of student assignments and attendance along with service. The successful candidate will be part of the biology team and work alongside chemistry, mathematics, and physics faculty, and is dedicated to quality instruction.

Teaching load is typically five to six labs per semester or an equivalent combination of recitations and laboratory sections. Course assignments are at the undergraduate levels that may include lecture support, recitations, and laboratories and may occur in a variety of modalities (online, on-ground, hybrid) on the Polytechnic campus. Course load is determined by the faculty head.  This is an academic-year 2021-2022 appointment with an expected start date of January 2022. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.  Candidate must reside in Arizona, or be willing to relocate.

The Science and Mathematics faculty support students in nine different undergraduate and one graduate program in the sciences and mathematics fields and BS degrees including BS degrees in Applied Biology, Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics. We also have three minors and one certificate available. We have faculty conducting research in biology, chemistry, applied mathematics, and physics. Collaboration with faculty is imperative when designing and implementing laboratories for the programs supported by the Science and Mathematics faculty.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Biology or closely related field at time of appointment
  • Experience teaching Biology at the undergraduate level
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Evidence of a commitment to meeting the needs of diverse/underrepresented student and/or community populations via teaching/mentoring or service
  • Experience teaching and implementing course management and homework systems in digital environments such as Canvas and Blackboard across diverse modalities (asynchronously and/or synchronously)

Desired Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in Biology or closely related field at time of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience teaching general biology and/or microbiology laboratories at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory exercise design, preparation, and implementation
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate student research projects
