University of Massachusetts Boston - School for the Environment

Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Coastal Geology

The School for the Environment at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in coastal geology, at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek an Earth scientist with broad expertise that complements current faculty expertise and who will build an externally funded research program that will attract high caliber PhD- and MS-level graduate students.  Possible areas of core expertise include but are not limited to marine geology and geophysics, coastal impacts of climate change, coastal sediment dynamics, estuarine system dynamics, and saltmarsh restoration. The candidate should have experience in field-based research and/or modeling the impacts of global change on coastal systems. Applicants must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field and have a demonstrated ability to conduct outstanding research.  Applicants should be committed to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as teaching duties are at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. An interest in collaborative team-based and trans-disciplinary research is also highly desirable. The School for the Environment comprises a diverse and dynamic core and affiliate faculty with research expertise in coastal ecology, climate adaptation, coastal sensor networks, coastal zone management, coastal planning and law, hydrogeology and geochemistry, and community engagement.

For full consideration, applications should be received by November 1, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.  Applications should apply online and include a curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements that articulate how the mission of the School for the Environment would be enhanced, and the names and contact information of at least three references.  Inquiries may be directed to Dr. Karen Johannesson, School for the Environment, University of Massachusetts Boston, 100 Morrissey Blvd., Boston, MA 02125 (karen.johannesson@umb.edu)
