The College of Engineering at the University of New Orleans (UNO) invites nominations and applications for position of Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, to begin in Fall of 2022.

Job Description
Position Summary:

The College of Engineering at University of New Orleans is seeking Chair for the Department of Mechanical Engineering who will provide leadership in all areas of scholarly activity (including teaching and service), and facilitate internal and external research.

Responsibilities:

The department chair will be responsible for administration of all functions relating to the teaching, research, and service mission of the department. These functions include but are not limited to: maintaining ABET accreditation of undergraduate programs; modernization of undergraduate and graduate curricula; mentoring and retention of students; supervision of departmental staff; hiring, review; reappointment, and promotion of faculty; fiscal responsibility; liaison with the Dean of the College and other university administrators; overall compliance with the University policies and procedures; and growth and development of the research portfolio and graduate student body. Department Chair reports to the College of Engineering Dean.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should have strong record of research and teaching performance, and credentials (including an earned PhD in mechanical, aerospace engineering or a related field) commensurate with appointment as a full (or an associate) professor with tenure in the Department.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience as department chair and eligible for appointment at rank of Professor with tenure.

UNO's Department of Mechanical Engineering has a ABET accredited undergraduate program which serves approximately 350 undergraduate students. In addition to the Bachelor of Science degree, students can earn Master of Science degree in Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Engineering and Applied Science. UNO is the only university in the Greater New Orleans area that offers such degrees in mechanical engineering.
Department has excellent instructional and research laboratories in the areas of thermal sciences and mechanics. The current research interests of the faculty include experimental and computational fluid dynamics, subsonic and supersonic aerodynamics, modelling of intermittent turbulence, application of nonintrusive measurement techniques using PIV and LDA, energy conversion and power generation, coal/biomass conversion, fluid-structure interactions, FE analysis of composite structures, structural dynamics, nondestructive testing of materials, and additive manufacturing. Excellent opportunities exist for multidisciplinary research and work with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds.
