Education and Outreach Coordinator - Commercial Produce Safety Program

Position Summary:
This position is a grant funded, 4-year position as a Commercial Produce Safety Program Education, Outreach and Technical Assistance Coordinator. The Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, instructing, and evaluating Produce Safety Rule training programs and technical assistance for produce growers, Extension Educators, and regulatory personnel statewide. This will include Outreach and Education (70%), Program Evaluation and Reporting (20%) and Program Planning and Implementation (10%).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Education, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices, on-farm food safety and agricultural production of horticulture and specialty crops.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Experience providing effective leadership for a statewide program and providing marketing and promotion of programs.
- Experience adapting research materials and published curriculum for effective oral and written presentations.
- Experience using computers and communicating through digital media.
- Experience preparing written communication.
- At least one year of professional work experience in food safety and/or the commercial fresh produce industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Education, or a closely related discipline with 3-5 years relevant food safety or industry work experience.
- Experience with Produce Safety Alliance Grower Trainings and/or Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training or certification.
- Experience coordinating and or delivering educational training for adult learners.
- Extension experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working with Idaho agricultural producers and professionals.
- Knowledge of Hispanic culture and ability to communicate in Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
