Job Description: Minimum qualifications:

Earned PhD or equivalent degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences, or a related field. Exceptional candidates with all but dissertation (ABD) status may be considered.

 

Preferred qualifications:

PhD or equivalent degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences, or a related field. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.  We are particularly interested in candidates with evidence of a professional background and accomplishments in petroleum engineering and with technical/research expertise in areas relevant to the energy transition.

 

Job responsibilities:

 

Teaching load of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the subject of Petroleum Engineering.

 

Conduct research with the expectation to develop a recognized, externally-funded research program on topics related to modern Petroleum Engineering. In addition, there will be additional duties that include service to the department, LSU, and to the profession of Petroleum Engineering.

The Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, invites applications for one faculty position in Petroleum Engineering, which will start fall 2022. Rank will be determined by the qualifications of the successful applicant. Additional support in the form of endowed professorships and chairs is available to qualified individuals. Areas of specialization are open to all fields in petroleum engineering and related disciplines.

 

The Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering is one of the leading petroleum engineering departments in the US, and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees.  External funding for ongoing research includes support from state, federal and industry sources.  Departmental resources to support this position include the Petroleum Engineering Research, Training & Testing Laboratory (a unique facility encompassing full-scale rig equipment, six wells as deep as 5800 feet, and supporting surface facilities), the Chevron Reservoir Characterization Laboratory, and a variety of other experimental and computational laboratories.  University resources include a synchrotron radiation center through the LSU Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) and outstanding computational resources through LSU High Performance Computing. Additionally, the State and University are investing heavily in CCUS related activities.

Special Instructions:

This position is a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Craft & Hawkins Dept of Petroleum Engineering. The incumbent in this position will have a part-time teaching load of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the subject of Petroleum Engineering as well as a part-time research component with the expectation to develop a recognized, externally-funded research program on topics related to modern Petroleum Engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates with evidence of a professional background and accomplishments in petroleum engineering and with technical/research expertise in areas relevant to the energy transition.
