- The Diversity as Mission Fellowships aim to enhance the
diversity of professoriate at GCU by offering opportunities for
emerging scholars who are from communities that are
underrepresented in academia to develop their teaching, research,
and service experience. These scholars animate GCU’s Mercy Catholic
mission by enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion as inherent
to the work of a social justice which centers the whole
person.
Postdoctoral fellows advance their research, scholarship, and teaching while engaged in service responsibilities of a faculty member. Fellows are housed in their relevant academic department or the Sister Mary Joseph Cunningham Library and are affiliated with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. They hold 50% of a full-time faculty’s course load and serve the university in various capacities. Fellows receive mentorship from a senior faculty member.
Essential Functions:
- Teaching in relevant academic department
- Community presentations/workshops related to academic research
- Programming and initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in conjunction with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Candidates must have a terminal degree (EdD, PhD, PsyD, MFA,
MLS, etc.) earned within the past 5 years, and should be
considering a career in one of the following fields:
- Arts & Sciences: Religious Studies (specialization within Catholic theology), Social Work
- Business & Digital Media: Sports Management
- Library: Reference & Instruction

- Cover letter indicating area of expertise and desired department for placement
- Curriculum vitae
- Transcripts (unofficial transcripts are permissible in initial application stages)
- Research statement which explains the focus of your academic work
- Teaching statement which highlights evidence of teaching ability
- A diversity statement which describes your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Two letters of recommendation
