Western Michigan University invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Behavior Analysis. The department is very proud of its 50-year history in behavior analysis. We are looking for qualified candidates who are interested in contributing to the future success of the department to further our quest for continuous quality improvement of the Behavior Analysis Program. Our faculty train practitioners, scholars, and leaders in the field of behavior analysis. We are seeking candidates who have interest in and can contribute to assuring the highest quality in training for the next generation of behavior analysts and scholars. Many areas of teaching and scholarly activities could contribute to this goal. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in a variety of research areas that fit a practitioner-training model.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate level behavior analysis courses
  • Develop and maintain practicum and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Advise/mentor graduate students, including chairing and serving on thesis and dissertation committees
  • Provide clinical supervision of master’s and doctoral students
  • Provide research supervision of master’s and doctoral students
  • Develop a productive line of research as evidenced by high quality peer-reviewed publications
  • Secure extramural funding (grants and contracts)
  • Provide appropriate service to the department, college and university

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity
  • A doctoral degree in behavior analysis, psychology, or a related discipline awarded by August 20, 2022.
  • Eligible to be or certified as a BCBA-D, qualified as a supervisor through the BACB, and eligible for licensure as a behavior analyst in the State of Michigan
  • Peer-reviewed publications in an area of behavior analysis

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience in advising diverse undergraduate or graduate student researchers, both domestic and international
  • Expertise or interest in one or more of the following:
    • Research that engages underrepresented communities (e.g., communities of color)
    • Integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities (e.g., communities of color) into behavior analytic research
    • Mentorship/supervision or practitioner training
    • Early behavior intervention for people with autism spectrum disorders or other clinical populations
    • Practice and research ethics
    • Statistics and quantitative analysis appropriate for a behavior analytic audience
  • History of establishing and sustaining clinical or research collaborations with community-based sites
  • Experience supervising or mentoring graduate level projects, theses, and or dissertations
  • Experience teaching applied behavior analysis courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in person and/or online
  • History or potential for extramural funding (grants and contracts)

Department: The Psychology Department includes 13 full-time faculty members. The department offers a comprehensive undergraduate program with over 700 majors and 500 minors, as well as over 150 graduate students. Renowned for its behavioral orientation, the department offers master’s degrees in behavior analysis (accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis), as well as doctoral degrees in behavior analysis (accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis International), clinical psychology (accredited by the American Psychological Association, next site visit 2027), and industrial/organizational behavior management. Faculty in the department have been tremendously successful in attracting support from external grants and contracts, with $1.3 million awarded in FY20-21 alone. Kalamazoo: Kalamazoo is located only two and a half hours by car from Chicago and Detroit and only 45 minutes from the beaches of Lake Michigan. It is located in one of Michigan’s designated research corridors, maintaining a strong life sciences/biotech presence and supporting two leading medical centers. With 263,000 people in the greater Kalamazoo area, the diverse community offers an array of cultural events, entertainment, and all-season recreation.
