The Assistant Director for Programming sets the strategy for, and oversees programs aimed at increasing students’ understanding of and engagement in the career development process. Additionally, the Assistant Director for Programming will serve as a career coach for a designated population.
As a career coach, you will also assist students throughout all phases of the career development process. You will meet with students 1:1 and in groups to help them reflect on their strengths, skills, and experiences, discover and explore career options, create personalized action plans for their professional development, utilize successful job and internship search strategies, connect them to careers and connections, and enhance their job search documents. In addition to meeting 1:1 with students, you will also be in charge of creating, coordinating, and implementing programs for students in one or more Colleges.

COMPENSATION:             $49,500 - $51,500

WORK SCHEDULE:           Full Time; 40 hours/week; Mondays-Fridays 8 am -5 pm; Weekly mix of in-office and virtual work and some evenings and weekends



In regards to Programming, this individual will:

  • Lead the programming strategy by creating and implementing learning outcomes that can be used to evaluate career education programming effectiveness
  • Oversee and allocate the programming budget
  • Collaborate with the Events and Strategic Partnerships Specialist to discuss strategy and implementation of CPDC event, especially employer-facing events such as Career Fairs and Expos

In regards to Leadership, this individual will:

  • Supervise three career coaches on the career education team, by planning onboarding, training and ongoing professional development, along with ongoing support for their career coaching needs
  • Serve as a member of the office’s Leadership Team – participating in office wide strategy development and budget considerations, and providing expertise in the creation and development of effective career development programming

In regards to Career coaching, this individual will:

  • Prepare and assist students in the discovery and decision-making process of career development.
  • Guide students through self-assessments, identify available resources and assist students with career research.
  • Supervise and evaluate a caseload of student internships providing guidance learning goals and career development assignments.
  •  Assist in the development and delivery of programs and workshops to further engage students in the career development process. The successful candidate will be skilled at assisting students with all aspects of the career development and planning process.
  • Assists students with preparing resume, interviewing skills and searching for jobs & internships electronically. 
  • Develops and presents multiple training workshops to prepare students on aspects of the employment and job search process.
  • Conducts ongoing research to provide information and feedback about recruitment and after-graduation activities for students. 
  • Coordinates activities between Career & Professional Development Center and Academic Partners.
  • This person must solve complex problems related to advising individual students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. These students are making life-changing decisions. The solution comes in the form of understanding and utilizing available resources to research options and provide individualized solutions. Coaches make decisions regarding the appropriateness of an employer’s requests for job postings and interview schedules. Each coach must be knowledgeable of employment laws and ethical standards for hiring and recruiting. Decisions are based on the adopted standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
  • Candidates should demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, strong presentation skills, leadership skills, prompt follow-through, initiative, attention to detail, high energy, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and a commitment to foster an inclusive environment.

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills also required. 
Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.
