The Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Piano, to begin August 15, 2022. The successful candidate will be an accomplished artist who is dedicated to teaching applied piano and related courses. We seek an individual whose work exhibits vitality, ingenuity, and leadership.

The Setnor School of Music is committed to enhancing the diversity of our community and curriculum. We seek an individual who will engage and recruit a diverse student body while also embracing the values of a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching.

Doctorate degree preferred; candidates with a master’s degree and comparable professional performing experience will be considered. The chosen candidate will be expected to serve on various School of Music and College committees, establish ongoing professional activity as a performer and participate actively in student recruitment. Qualifications
  • Doctorate or ABD in piano or associated field, or master’s degree plus significant professional experience.
  • Significant experience in studio teaching.
  • Significant performance experience as a pianist.
  • Organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Commitment to working collegially.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Broad-minded and resourceful teacher and performer
  • Experience performing and teaching repertoire composed within the last 50 years.
  • Experience with music technology.
  • Commitment to excellence and engagement in 21st-Century piano pedagogy
  • Artist-scholar with a developing national profile, with promise toward an international profile.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting
  • Ability to synthesize culturally and historically diverse content into teaching, research and performing.
Responsibilities
Serve on committees in the Department/School, College, and University. This may include recruitment, program development, community outreach, student advising, mentoring of student organizations, and participating in accreditation- and assessment-related activities.
