ResponsibilitiesThe Public Services Librarian (PSL) contributes to the mission of the Mercer University Libraries and to the Tarver Library (TL) by providing innovative and effective supervision of all aspects of the Library's public services by managing the Circulation Services department, and by serving as a Research Services Librarian. The PSL demonstrates superb leadership by modeling excellent customer service by assisting in patron-driven acquisitions inquiries, supervising all aspects of the Circulation desk including employee training and evaluation, scheduling, building and security management, print collection management, circulation customer service training, and policy drafting and implementation. As a member of the Research Services team, the PSL provides one-on-one consultations when needed, offers in-class instruction, works with other Research Services Librarians in covering the virtual calendar, and utilizes 24/7 reference instruction models and tools designed to support 21st-century library users.
Required QualificationsCandidates must have a MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution and demonstrated relevant circulation/public services or reference experience in a library, which must include management/supervisory experience. The successful candidate should also be able to use Microsoft Office, LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibChat, Alma/Primo, and social media.
