SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Learning Support Specialist is responsible for providing academic assistance to students in all content areas within the Learning Support Center; providing general assistance to faculty; and facilitating the SLOA process as needed. This position specifically will need knowledge of grammar, composition, and reading as well as basic research, reference, and citation skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A. Facilitates student learning by:
1. Ensuring student needs are met in a proactive, team-based setting
2. Fostering an optimal learning environment that empowers students to become independent learners
3. Providing LSC orientations and various workshops
B. Supports the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support
Services in:
1. Providing and tracking research assistance to students
2. Implementing resources required for smooth operation of the Learning Support Center
3. Implementing and tracking the peer tutoring program
C. Facilitating collaboration between the Library and the Learning
Support Center Assists faculty and other departments by:
1. Providing reports to faculty, administration, and coordinators of specialized programs on student progress and usage of the Learning Support Center
2. Supporting the SLOA process and other faculty projects as approved by the Director of Developmental Education and Adult Literacy Services
3. Remaining current on new methods of instruction, education, and library reference
D. Serves on college committees when appropriate and performs other
duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline is required. Two to three years of related teaching, tutoring, and/or library reference experience is preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task; excellent written, oral, research, and computer skills; ability to establish positive working relationships with faculty and students.
