Job Summary

The Production Manager, Stage Operations (Rigger), under the Director of Production, will be responsible for executing all aspects of deck and rigging operations and the coordination of technical elements throughout productions presented at The Jay & Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center ( GPAC ), a multi-use performing arts venue hosting touring and professional artists, university and community performances, as well as outside event rentals. This position serves as the deck chief and fly operator for productions and will be responsible for overseeing show specific rigging, maintaining stage equipment and work areas, establishing a safe working environment, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Functions

The Following essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon unit needs.

1. The Production Manager, Stage Operations (Rigger) serves as the deck chief and fly operator for productions and will be responsible for overseeing show specific rigging, maintaining stage equipment and work areas, establishing a safe working environment. This includes automated and manual rigging systems, dance flooring installation, pit lift systems, chain motor operation and maintenance, and acoustic shell installation.

2. Oversee all stage and rigging operations, in compliance with the Gogue Performing Arts Center’s vision and mission for excellence including planning, development, set-up, testing, implementation and maintenance of equipment used for stage operations and rigging.

3. Provides rigging and stage support for all building operations and events while demonstrating excellent customer service to all patrons, artists, and clients. Advises during presenting and rental contract negotiations as to the rigging system and capabilities of the spaces and available equipment. Review, interpret, and execute all technical riders and rigging requests of user groups and presents written estimates of cost of labor and materials for events to Director of Production in a timely manner so a budget can be created.

4. Creates and updates rigging and stage specifications for the facility. Manages inventory, storage, repair, and preventative maintenance of all rigging, lifts, stage tools and equipment. Updates software and hardware needs in keeping with ongoing current standards for performing arts events. Maintains accurate inventories of equipment and consumables.

5. Monitor and implements industry best practices in rigging and stage operations, particularly in relation to health & safety, in all GPAC spaces. Provide regular updates to the Director of Production on all areas of responsibility.

6. Trains and supervises students and part-time employees involved in stage and rigging production operations of the GPAC .

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education Level

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

Technical Theatre or another relevant field. Employer may consider relevant experience in lieu of education.

Loading in and out rigging and scenery for live performances including touring productions. Experience with maintaining and operating single purchase fly system; proper operation and maintenance of chain motors and pit lifts; experience working at heights safely. 2 years of supervisory experience required.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

- A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, tools, and equipment used in rigging and stage operations.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and to establish and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Exceptional communication and collaborative skills with demonstrated ability to lead a team.
- Position regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion, and occasionally lifting more than 100 pounds.
- Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.

Minimum Technology Skills

Strong knowledge of computer applications in Windows and Mac environments and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office 365 applications (OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc).

Minimum License and Certifications

CPR certification required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Desired Certifications: Entertainment Technician Certification Program ( ETCP ) from the Entertainment Services and Technology Association ( ESTA ).
