The Simmons University Department of Chemistry & Physics invites applications for tenure track faculty position beginning Fall 2022. This is a full time (10-month), tenure track assistant or associate professor position in the Chemistry and Physics Department offering ACS Certified Chemistry & Biochemistry, and Physics B.S. Degrees. We seek an innovative educator and scholar with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, creative curriculum development, an active research agenda, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration inside and outside the University. The primary area of expertise is in inorganic, bioinorganic, or inorganic materials chemistry and should complement existing departmental strengths in the Chemistry & Physics Department and contribute to our growing [3+2] Engineering Program with Columbia University. The Chemistry & Physics Department prepares students for entry into the thriving biotech industry in Boston, into graduate programs in chemistry and physics, and medical, dental and veterinary schools.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach descriptive inorganic and general chemistry courses as well as upper level electives, along with a willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses in the Honors and General Education (PLAN) programs. In addition, the candidate will develop and maintain an active research program in inorganic, bioinorganic, or inorganic materials chemistry that involves undergraduate student participation in the research labs. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring students, participation in curriculum development, and service on departmental, college, and university committees.

Applicants should have a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Inorganic Materials Chemistry, Nanoscience or related field, or a PhD expected to be completed by the time of the appointment. Research interests centering on "science for social good" such as environmental remediation, clean energy, nanomedicine is encouraged as is post-doctoral experience. Additional qualifications include demonstrated experience in scholarship that includes original research, publications, or participation in other scholarly activities; evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching; and the ability to establish an active research program with undergraduates. The Department values experiential learning, learner-centered educational strategies and strong teaching skills. We implement course-based, undergraduate research experiences (CURE, as described by the Council for Undergraduate Research) for upper-level laboratory courses.
