Assistant Vice President of Human Resources

Lasell University located in Newton, Massachusetts, a small private college of 2,000 students and 400 full and part-time faculty and staff, invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.

The AVP of Human Resources plans, directs and manages all human resources initiatives; recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, and employee relations of Lasell University. The AVP of Human Resources serves as an employee and employer advocate; communicates frequently with all levels of the organization and collaborates with the Senior Management Team, Associate VP of Administration and Finance, Chief Information Officer, Controller, Payroll Coordinator, and Director of Legal Affairs on issues related to HR/Payroll web administration, employee related risk management and general finance issues.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Chief of Staff and General Counsel, the AVP of Human Resources is responsible for all aspects of Human Resource management/administration including, but not limited to:
  • Ensure the University's commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a top priority.
  • Serve as a strategic resource to all University Departments and Senior Management Team
  • Benefits administration: Administers all employee benefits including the bid process with benefits broker and vendors; open enrollment; enrollment and termination of employees in dental, life, accidental death and dismemberment, long term disability, flexible spending plans, retirement plans; and COBRA administration.
  • Work with the CFO on EdHealth plan management.
  • HRIS (Human Resource Information System) maintenance - Works collaboratively with the Assistant VP Finance and Controller to assure the HR component of the HR/Payroll web system remains accurate and current.
  • Implement a coherent and systemic wellness program and start the launch of Healthy You.
  • Coordinate the performance evaluation process on campus for staff.
  • Serve as a resource for HR staff at Lasell Village.
  • Legal compliance- Assures compliance with state and federal employment laws, such as HIPAA and other privacy laws, FLSA, immigration, EEOC (discrimination/harassment), FMLA, SNL, and others.
  • Employment, employee relations: Works with Senior Management Team members, Director of Legal Affairs, Diversity officer, faculty chairs and department managers, as needed, to resolve issues.
  • Supervise human resources staff.
  • Implement HR management policies/procedures in compliance with federal and state laws and institutional policies.
  • Collaborate with third party vendor regarding Worker's Compensation and Unemployment claims filing and follow-up; tracks accidents on campus and prepares annual OSHA reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, and at least 10 years HR generalist experience required. Master's degree, and experience with emphasis on benefits administration/employee relations preferred.
  • Experience in a college/university setting preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Expertise with integrated HR/Payroll systems is important and experience with Paycom is preferred.

  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills and be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be detail oriented and have proven organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of the community in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality and a commitment to diversity is crucial; a sense of humor is extremely helpful.
