The Search

The University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Pharmacy (SOP) seeks a strategic, transformational, and visionary leader to serve as its inaugural Assistant Dean, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (A-Dean of DEI). The A-Dean of DEI will be a proven strategic leader with a depth of knowledge on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) best practices. Reporting directly to SOP Dean Natalie D. Eddington, the A-Dean of DEI will create a strategic vision for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for the SOP—one that fosters a supportive culture for faculty, staff, students and patients, and centers the advancement of health equity at its core. 

 

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is the academic health, law, and social work university of the state, and its achievements have earned it national and international prominence. The University includes the six professional schools of dentistry, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and social work, and an interdisciplinary Graduate School. The SOP is well positioned for an innovative and inclusive leader to directly address current challenges and steward the School’s commitment to inclusive excellence.

 

Drawing on the momentum of the SOP Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force, the A-Dean of DEI will amplify the SOP’s efforts to impact the lived experience of every student, faculty, staff, and patient to encourage a sense of belonging and ownership by cultivating a caring community focused on shared values of accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence, knowledge, and leadership. The A-Dean of DEI will work in close collaboration with SOP senior leaders and members of the DEI Task Force to lead the development and implementation of a DEI strategic plan that maximizes the impact of current initiatives while mapping onto the SOP’s strategic plan. The A-Dean of DEI will create a culture of dialogue, education, and training; support efforts to attract, recruit, and retain diverse students, faculty, and staff; promote the equitable care of diverse patients; and measure the success of these efforts by bolstering data collection and reporting efforts. The successful candidate will be a sophisticated relationship builder, with experience disseminating best practices. This leader will influence others by inspiring awareness and enthusiasm to help diversity, equity, and inclusion flourish at UMB’s School of Pharmacy.
