The Carnegie Mellon University School of Music announces a tenure-track opening for an Assistant Professor of Composition/Music Theory.

 

POSITION & APPOINTMENT: Full-time, 9-month position at Assistant Professor level. This is a tenure-track position, with the appointment scheduled to begin on September 1, 2022.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as studio instructor for eight music composition majors
  • Teach one course per semester in advanced music theory as assigned
  • Serve on audition, jury and university committees as assigned, and satisfy all other normal requirements of full-time faculty
  • Will be expected to develop and maintain professional activities appropriate for a tenured position at a Tier 1 research university

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • D., DMA, or equivalent professional accomplishments
  • A portfolio demonstrating a record of excellence as a composer and teacher of music theory
  • Applicants are advised that there is a preference for a strong record of achievement in composition, recruiting and teaching a strong class of students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences at a university or conservatory
