Distinguished Research Scientist - Marine and Estuarine Science

The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for a twelve-month, grant-funded, full-time position beginning January 1, 2022. The Department of Natural Sciences offers B.S. degrees in various disciplines, and M.S and Ph.D. interdisciplinary programs in Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences (MEES), M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Toxicology, and a Professional Science Master’s degree in Quantitative Fisheries and Resources Economics. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The individual who is chosen to be LMRCSC’s Distinguished Research Scientist will provide leadership to expand the Center’s research work in NOAA fisheries related areas. The individual will facilitate and coordinate research among the Center partner institutions and with NOAA Fisheries, seek and attract external funding to support the LMRCSC as well as assist and involve other faculty and students in promoting research and scholarship. He/she will also coordinate the annual LMRCSC Science meetings, Request for Proposals (RFP), and proposal review process conducted by the Center’s Technical Advisory Board. The individual will facilitate student professional development, serve as the Center’s point of contact for initiating student Experiential Research Training Opportunities at NOAA, conduct research in his/her field of expertise, recruit and mentor graduate students, publish in scholarly journals, and teach one course a semester in his/her area of specialty. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Candidates will hold a Ph.D. in marine science, fisheries science, biology or zoology, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; at least five years of successful teaching and/or research experience in a university, federal or state agency, a significant record of grantsmanship, research, and publication in marine and/or fisheries sciences; demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and coordinate an interdisciplinary research program; effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; and evidence of participation in professional organizations. Candidates with Advanced Open-Water Diving or Instructor Certifications are encouraged to apply.
