The University of California, Merced, Department of Economics and Business Management invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching (Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment, LPSOE) beginning July 1, 2022. The ideal candidate is expected to contribute to the department’s PhD program by teaching a first-year econometrics course and similar courses for the undergraduate majors in Economics and Business Management.

 

This position is equivalent in level to other Assistant Professor positions but with emphasis placed on excellence in teaching and instruction-related activities. Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the start of appointment on July 1, 2022. We are particularly interested in candidates with a proven record of teaching excellence beyond any experience they may have as teaching assistants, particularly in the fields of econometrics and statistics.

 

An Assistant Professor of Teaching is a member of the academic senate and has an expected workload of six classes per year (three per semester). Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input. Assistant Professors of Teaching are required to undergo a mandatory 7th-year review for promotion to Associate Professor of Teaching (with tenure). The review process focuses on teaching excellence, professional and/or scholarly activities, and service.

 

Minimum Qualifications: In order to be considered, candidates must have a PhD in Economics, or a closely related field by the position start date.

Samples of research are welcome but not required.

Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and UC academic salary scales.
