Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Partner (DEI Partner)

Job Description Summary

The DEI Partner will serve as the liaison between Human Resources (HR), the Office of Intercultural Affairs (OIA) and the Office of Research, Professional Development and Online Learning. The DEI Partner is charged with promoting inclusion through building bridges across constituents; supporting institutional initiatives, providing data analyses and reporting that to advance cultural understandings and respect. The DEI Partner will build partnerships in support and promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion.

  Position Specific Responsibilities

Cultivate partnerships within divisions, departments, and units, faculty and staff in support diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. This includes but not limited to providing comprehensive DEI guidance for faculty searches, collaborate in DEI programming, workshops and training programs, and serving on committees and/or working groups charged with fostering and improving the diversity, equity and inclusivity of the university.

Serve as an advisor and DEI subject matter expert promoting faculty and staff engagement and feedback in support of optimal strategies and practices.

Support DEI initiatives, programming and activities.

  • Provide support for the faculty search process through consultative services to search committees (identify alternative talent sources, provide bias training, work with all constituents ensuring searches proactively consider inclusivity). Facilitate review of faculty opportunity hires.

  • Participate in and support OIA diversity initiatives and programming, e.g., developing DEI module for new employee orientation and chair orientation programs.

  • Research, design and implement DEI programming focused on increasing diversity through talent acquisition.

  • Lead development and execution of DEI strategies, in close collaboration with HR, talent management, recruitment, and unit partners to define priorities, goals and measures of success.

  • Serve as point-person for DEI data collected, analyzed and reported through human resources including but not limited to reporting the diversity of a search, equity scorecards, and requests for unit specific data).

  • Partner with the Provost Office and CTE on diversity initiatives and programming to support faculty training, mentorship, and success.

 

Provide facilitation and consultation services for various groups across campus, which may include DEI, anti-racism, cultural consciousness and bias training.

Serve as internal expert to HR ensuring that HR staff are educated, engaged and understand the role of HR on DEI and how to promote and influence greater inclusivity.

Serve as DEI point-person for the Division of Administration coordinating, monitoring, supporting and reporting divisional efforts and successes.

Participate in the DEI activities: may present and/or represent the university at professional organization meetings; contribute to affiliated departmental strategic plan and planning process; serve on committees as assigned; other duties as assigned.

 

Experience/Qualifications

Minimum five years’ experience in the DEI space with that evidences the ability to work effectively and independently with internal and external constituencies and with a wide-range of individuals of varied disciplines. Experience responding to and facilitating highly charged issues.

Highly collaborative style with experience developing and implementing communications strategies successfully; background that demonstrates relationship-building, consensus-building, flexibility, and managing through influence.

Knowledge of societal systems of bias, and ability to apply this knowledge to invent, evolve, improve, and simplify HR processes.

Knowledge of DEI analytics, including how to drive impact in recruitment, talent, and inclusion metrics.

Experience demonstrating high judgment and working with confidential or highly sensitive subject matter.

 

Required Education

Typically a Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in psychology, sociology, political science, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Incumbent is expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of best practices and industry trends.
