The salary range for this position is $45,300 – $56,650. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites candidates to apply for a full-time staff Lighting and Technology Manager.

The Lighting and Technology Manager is responsible for the daily operation, safety, organization, and management of the lighting and technology shop. These duties include light design or supervision of the lighting design for all productions within the department; completion of lighting elements within production deadlines; supervision of all necessary production purchases; supervision of strike; and adherence to provided budgets.

The Lighting and Technology Manager, with the guidance of the Production Manager, is responsible for the supervision and safety of student, volunteer, and lighting work studies, initiating student employee paperwork, time entry approval, supervision and termination of student employees within the university process. The Manager is also responsible for keeping the shop supplied with all appropriate materials and goods, and maintaining general organization of the work and storage spaces. The Lighting and Technology Manager works with the Theatre Department Faculty and Staff to develop and implement training for students, and utilizes summer months to complete lighting and technology equipment inventories and equipment maintenance. This position has the opportunity to teach 1-2 lighting courses per academic year.

Duties/Responsibilities
60% of position:
• Serving as Lighting Designer or Lighting Supervisor for four mainstage theatrical productions.
• Serving as Lighting Designer or Lighting Supervisor for various dance productions.
• Supporting student designers or guest designers as needed.
• In consultation with full-time faculty, serving as an advisor and mentor for lighting, sound, and projections students.
• Serving as the technical coordinator for the Arts 271 lab production needs. Examples of this type of production include directing class performances, devised class performances, play readings, or student led studio productions.
• Overseeing the completion of all lighting elements for departmental productions within production deadlines.
• Supervising the purchase of all necessary materials and supplies needed for each production.
• Overseeing and coordinating all light hang, focus, maintenance, programming, and strike calls in consultation with the Scene Shop Manager and the Technical Director.
• Training and supporting lighting crew on all proper upkeep and maintenance during the run of the show.
• Attending production meetings and relevant rehearsals to execute the lighting design and lighting coordination for each production and project.
• Overseeing lighting strike after each production and ensuring that all lighting and technology equipment is stored properly with all student department heads.
• Training master electricians, technology crews, and lighting crews to ensure smooth prep, hang/install, focus, performance, and strike processes.
• Ensuring adherence to the production and general lighting shop budgets in a timely fashion.
• Tracking all production expenditures.
• Supervising, instructing, and ensuring a safe working environment for all students, volunteer, and paid staff workers in the lighting and technology areas.
• Developing and implementing training procedures in basic lighting skills for all work-study, practicum, and lab students.
• Implementing fall arrest, genie lift, and counter-weight fly system training for students on an as-needed basis.
• Assisting guest sound and projections designers with the installation, rigging, and maintenance of sound and projections equipment.

30% of position:
• Managing shop supplies, including gel, lamps, and other lighting supplies.
• Maintaining shop safety, shop activities, shop equipment, production equipment, and storage areas, including repairs, maintenance, and replacements.
• Maintaining and improving organization of storage for lighting equipment, cable, and other supplies.
• Reviewing and updating equipment inventories.

10% of position:
Other duties assigned. Required Qualifications
• BFA in Theatre, Lighting Emphasis or a BA in Theatre or related degree
• Experience Designing Lighting professionally
• Experience in professional light shop setting
• Experience programming and troubleshooting on ETC Ion and Element Lightboards
• Experience working with and designing with LED and Intelligent Light Technology
• Experience working with Vectorworks and Lightwright lighting software
• Experience in sound and projection technology
• Experience with maintenance of lighting, sound, and projection technology
• Experience with lighting, technology, and theatre safety standards and the implementation of standards
• Experience working with a counter-weight fly systems
• Ability to work with students of varying level of skill and experience
• Ability to lift heavy lighting equipment up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time

• MFA in Lighting or related area
• Lighting shop management experience
• 1+ years in Theatrical and/or Dance University and College experience preferred
• Experience working with ETC Augmented and other lighting visualization software
• Knowledge of sound and projection equipment
• Experience working with a diverse student population is desirable
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Email, Dropbox) Work Hours
9 am – 5 pm workweek schedule with some required evenings and weekends associated with lighting hangs, focus calls, technical rehearsals, and strikes for four season productions as well as dance and Arts 271 production needs.
