School of Nursing Director, Professor & Southwest Florida Endowed Chair in Nursing

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and visionary leader to serve as the Florida Gulf Coast University School of Nursing Director. As the Chief Nurse Administrator, the School Director provides effective leadership and direction in implementing the vision, mission, strategic plan, and core values of the School while supporting an environment that encourages growth and innovation. The appointee will also hold the Southwest Florida Endowed Chair in Nursing.

The School of Nursing is situated within the Marieb College of Health & Human Services with the School Director reporting to the Marieb College Dean. The School Director provides leadership for the planning, workload, community involvement, student advising, student recruitment, program development, teaching, and operational aspects of the B.S.N., M.S.N. and D.N.P Programs. The School Director actively mentors and supports faculty, strengthens School relationships in the community, and fosters clinical partnerships and affiliations. Additionally, the School Director represents the nursing programs at local, state, national, and international meetings/conferences, provides service to the University and profession, and supports scholarly activities.

As the School of Nursing Director, you will head the organizational administration of the School by providing leadership and oversight for all aspects of the educational programs including, but not limited to, governance, didactic and clinical curriculum, recruitment, and evaluation. You will serve in a leadership role to supervise and mentor faculty in development of scholarship as well as instructional materials, teaching strategies, and assessment measures for accredited School Programs. You will participate as an active member of the Marieb College interprofessional leadership team. As a faculty member, you will be involved in course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; and participate on School, College and University committees and/or initiatives.

As the Southwest Florida Endowed Chair in Nursing, you will provide leadership in nursing research and evidence-based practice within the School and the SWFL nursing community. Additionally, you will promote instructional, outreach, and community service activities that serve the SWFL community at-large and build upon strong relationships between external constituents and FGCU. The Southwest Florida Endowed Chair in Nursing also fosters relationships with academic, community, and healthcare partners to enhance networking and career opportunities for faculty, students and alumni.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

• Provides leadership and strategic direction for the School of Nursing
• Oversees all administrative matters including financial management and budget planning and execution, human resources management, and academic resources and space utilization and needs
• Initiates new programming with community and university partners to meet SWFL nursing workforce needs
• Maintains compliance with CCNE, COA and SACSCOC accreditation standards and ongoing School and Program accreditation efforts
• Supports and guides School Program Directors in all facets of Program administration and management
• Prepares internal and external regulatory and accreditation reports in collaboration with School Program Directors, Office of the Dean, FGCU Planning and Institutional Performance and other relevant university offices
• Functions as supervisor for faculty, staff, clinical coordinators and adjuncts
• Plans and monitors faculty and staff workloads and assignments
• Oversees development and refinement of curriculum materials within regulatory and professional guidelines/domains
• Oversees development and implementation of policies related to admission, progression, and sequencing of classroom and clinical practice components of all School programs
• Monitors recruitment, selection, enrollment and progression of Program students
• Monitors off-campus clinical sites, off-campus clinical coordinators and student clinical practice experiences
• Maintains involvement in community and professional activities
• Provides leadership in nursing research and evidence-based practice as the Southwest Florida Endowed Chair in Nursing
• Expectations for scholarship will be those identified for rank as described in FPED and College documents
• Service to School, College, University and Professional community is expected in the form of committees, accreditation activities, etc.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent and a nationally accredited nursing program; or equivalent or Ph.D. in Health-related field or Education or Ed.D. from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent AND a Graduate Nursing degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent and a nationally accredited nursing program .
• Attained the rank of full professor or demonstrates a record of comparable professional experience and credentials prior to appointment that merit appointment at the rank of Professor in Nursing
• Five or more years of clinical nursing experience
• Current unrestricted nursing license in the State of Florida or, eligible for licensure
• Evidence of leadership in curriculum design, implementation and evaluation
• Experience as a faculty member in nursing education programs at the College/University level
• Experience with institutional and programmatic accreditation requirements and regulatory standards governing nurse educational programs
• Evidence of established scholarship leading to research, professional presentations, and publications

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent and a nationally accredited nursing program or equivalent.
• Prior experience in academic leadership of CCNE accredited nursing programs
• Understanding of alternative teaching styles including, but not limited to, simulation, virtual reality, online learning, and flipped classrooms
• Record of successful grant funding
• Leadership in professional nursing organizations (e.g. membership and / or committee involvement)
