The University of Southern Maine seeks applicants for the position of Director of Orientation and Transitional Programs. The Director of OTP creates and oversees orientation and transition experiences that inspire new students at USM to connect and thrive.

The Director position is a 12-month, full time position located on our Gorham campus, with expectation of service as needed on the Portland campus. The position requires knowledge of and experience with best practices in the provision of orientation and transition experiences (including the ability to implement programs consistent with CAS standards). The successful applicant will have a deep commitment to equity and student success, a track- record of successful implementation of effective and inclusive orientation and transition programming, and an interest in productive partnerships and collaboration with colleagues in both academic and student affairs.

The Director supervises the Coordinator of Orientation and Programming, and a team of undergraduate and graduate student employees in various orientation leader roles. The Director is responsible for a substantial budget, and exercises fiscal responsibility and effective use of resources in direct support of student orientation and transition.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, demonstrated experience in counseling, advising, or a student related area.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively more responsible management experience and demonstrated leadership.
  • Knowledge of student development and student learning theories, strong organizational and administrative skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, team building skills, the ability to build positive and effective relationships across the campus and community, a strong commitment to diversity, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple tasks, ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and ability to provide exemplary customer service.
  • The candidate must also have excellent supervisory and personnel management skills, a strong work ethic, evidence of good judgment, attention to details, ability to maintain confidentiality, and demonstrable personal integrity.

Other information:

This position will pay an annual salary of $64,645.00.
