The Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University (GWSPH) welcomes applications for a tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (DBB). Candidates with interests in all areas of biostatistics and biomedical data science are invited to apply. Appointment as an assistant, associate, or full professor will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.      

Launched in the Summer of 2019, the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics elevates the school’s commitment to the quantitative sciences and supports the university-wide focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The vision of the Department is to improve public health through excellence in education and teaching in biostatistics and bioinformatics, transformative scientific research, and dedicated service to the university, profession, and community. With twenty-three Department faculty that have received more research funding than any other department at the University, the Department educates the next generation of leaders in biostatistics and bioinformatics by providing opportunities for close interactions with award-winning faculty and practical real-world training opportunities in clinical trials, observational studies, data science, diagnostic studies, and bioinformatics and computational biology. 

The Department offers a Ph.D. and Master’s program in Health and Biomedical Data Science that consists of two concentrations: Applied Biostatistics and Applied Bioinformatics, as well as an MPH and undergraduate programs. The Department incorporates the Computational Biology Institute and Biostatistics and Epidemiology Consulting Services, and has strong associations with the Biostatistics Center that provide and facilitate an excellent environment to conduct research and collaborate in multi-disciplinary projects. 

The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse and growing faculty. Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active research program, teach and contribute to the development and evolution of departmental programs and curriculum, mentor students, and serve the School and University. Opportunities to conduct research and collaborate at the renowned Biostatistics Center are available. 

Basic Qualifications:  Applicants must have

    a doctoral degree conferred no later than the start date of the position in biostatistics, data science, statistics, or equivalent in a relevant field; a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications; evidence of proposing and/or implementing funded research; and a history of teaching courses in biostatistics and/or mentoring students.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. 

Senior applicants should have an active, externally-funded research portfolio and a national/international reputation in the field.
