Job Description

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position with the Systems Software Research Group (https://www.ssrg.ece.vt.edu/) at Virginia Tech. The position involves investigating innovative operating systems (OS) and virtualization architectures for emerging computer hardware, in particular, those with multicore processors, heterogeneous cores, and server-grade high-end hardware with IO virtualization support. The position involves developing OSs and virtualization software systems for such hardware, developing them as open-source software, contributing to experimental open-source projects, e.g., Virginia Tech's Popcorn Linux project (http://popcornlinux.org/), LibrettOS project (https://librettos.org/), and upstreaming them (or components thereof) to mainstream OS/virtualization infrastructures (e.g., Linux, BSD).

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in computer science or computer engineering is required. Background in operating systems and virtualization is required; proven programming expertise with open-source OSs or related infrastructures (e.g., the Linux kernel, BSD, Xen, KVM, etc) is required. Background and experience with compiler and run-time infrastructures (e.g., GCC, LLVM) are highly desirable.
