Texas Lutheran University invites applications for a full-time visiting faculty position in the Department of Nursing to begin January 10, 2022. Strongest applicants, with a terminal degree in nursing, may be considered in the future for a permanent tenure-track nursing position. The role of visiting nursing faculty focuses on teaching excellence in the classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. Publications, presentations, grant writing, or other activities typical to a tenure track position are encouraged, but not required. This position is for a 9-month appointment with 12 credit load hours per term for three terms (Spring 2022, Fall 2022, and Spring 2023). Additionally, a visiting faculty will serve on nursing program committees and advise/mentor nursing students each semester. 

Requirements for the position include:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Texas or be eligible for licensure in Texas.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and advising of undergraduate students consistent with the Department’s Mission, Values, and Program Outcomes.
  • Evidence of at least two years of clinical expertise in maternal newborn nursing, leadership, mental health/psychiatric nursing, and/or medical-surgical nursing.
  • Ability to work collegially with other faculty members and staff in the department and across campus.
  • Commitment to university/community service, outreach, and continued professional development.
  • Commitment to attracting, retaining, and educating students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Understanding and support of the mission of Texas Lutheran University. 

Preference may be given to candidates who also offer one or more of the following:

  • Terminal degree (Ph.d, EdD, DNP) and/or certifications/credentialing in specialty or APRN.
  • Evidence of teaching experience in a specialty in nursing such as critical care nursing, medical surgical nursing, or mental health nursing.
  • Evidence of contributions to diversity and/or experience working with underrepresented or disadvantaged student populations.
  • Evidence of experience in program development and evaluation, curriculum design, and teaching in an undergraduate baccalaureate nursing program.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in various formats, including the use of instructional technology, concept-based curriculum, flipped classroom, interdisciplinary, and team teaching.
  • Evidence of experience working within the rules, laws, and regulations relating to BSN programs in Texas.
  • Evidence of experience in building and promoting community relationships, including developing student practicums in nursing.
  • Evidence of successful implementation of evidence-based practice or research utilization projects. 

The Department of Nursing has full approval from the Texas Board of Nursing to offer a baccalaureate degree in nursing and is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001. We have an excellent pre-licensure NCLEX-RN pass rate and employment rate for our graduates. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for a nursing career and requires all students to be involved in faculty-mentored undergraduate research.
