Part-time Psychology/Research Methods Instructor

The Psychology Program in the School of Humanities, Education, Justice & Social Sciences is seeking someone to teach a class in Experimental Design and Research Methods.

This is a face-to-face class that is scheduled to meet Tuesdays & Thursdays 11:00am-12:15pm with a lab session on Thursdays 12:30-2:00pm for the students to conduct experiments and analyze data.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide instruction for all sessions of assigned courses utilizing the college philosophy of connected learning.
  • Provide a syllabus and course outline to students that clearly communicates course learning outcomes.
  • Align some course assignments with departmental and college core curriculum goals learning goals and provide student work samples for college assessment purposes (sample assignments available)
  • Maintain a minimum of 1 office hour each week either on campus or through conference calling such as Zoom.
  • Incorporate Canvas (online learning platform) into the course.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress (grades) and complete mid-semester and final grade reports by registrar deadlines

Qualifications:

A willingness to incorporate the college's Connected Learning Philosophy into the course as well as a master's degree in a related field are required (doctoral degree preferred). Career-relevant experience such as research and/or statistics is a plus.

Course Description: This laboratory course covers concepts of the scientific method in psychology including the logic of experimental and correlational designs, issues of control, sampling, measurement of variables, ethical issues in research, use of online professional search procedures, and writing in APA style. As part of the lab, students learn to use statistical software to create a database and perform statistical analyses. Prerequisites: MATH208 and either PSYC101 or SOC101 or approval of Program Chair.
