department of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Life
is seeking an Assistant Director of LGBT Life. Ideally, the
individual selected will possess considerable knowledge of the
developmental needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer,
and questioning students in higher education.
A demonstrated success in student program
development, administration, and evaluation is desirable, as well
as with public speaking and presenting to diverse populations.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The LGBT Assistant Director
maintains and enhances educational, social, support, referral, and
resource programs and services for students regarding issues of
sexual and gender identities.
- Advises student group members and leaders regarding program planning and development, group process concerns, leadership and personal development, budgets, state law, University policy, and legal issues.
- Develops and implements training and development programs for student leaders.
- Plans, conducts, and supervises special events. Evaluates the success of various programs, groups, functions, and special events.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises all (up to 20) volunteer student Queer Discussion Group Facilitators
- Builds and maintains semesterly and weekly training curriculum
- Organizes weekly schedule of groups
- Meets with facilitators individually as needed
- Recruits, trains, and supervises graduate student staff
- Manages graduate student staff payroll and budgets
- Supports other Office staff in the supervision of undergraduate student staff
- Coordinates, develops, and facilitates departmental and student organizational trainings on queer and trans topics
- Advises undergraduate and graduate/professional student organizations including the LGBTQ+ Grad Student Coalition
- Facilitates student organization retreats
- Provides 1:1 developmental support of students
- Coordinates the Office of LGBT Life major events including Atlanta Pride and Pride Awards
- Manages the Office of LGBT Life’s assessment plan and reports
- Ordering office supplies
- Managing website and listservs
- Managing library and educational materials
- Strategic planning committees
- Assessment committees
- Orientation and Creating Emory
- PACE
- Intersections
- CrossRoads
- Others as applicable
- Assists relationships with alumni and GALA: Emory LGBT Alumni
- Represents Emory University on and off campus
- Collaborates with Belonging & Community Justice colleagues to develop and implement intersectional programming and events
- Supports Emory and Campus Life via committee work, projects, and initiatives that serve the campus broadly

A master's degree in student
personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or a
related field

Two years of professional
experience working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer,
and questioning students in higher education.

Candidates must have considerable
knowledge of the developmental needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, queer, and questioning students in higher
education.
Candidates must also have
demonstrated experience in public speaking and presenting to
diverse communities and an understanding of multiple identity
development.
A demonstrated success in student
program development, administration, and evaluation is
desirable.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and management skills are necessary. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity is desirable. Knowledge of policies and procedures of a medium size, private university is sought.
