Organizational Unit Overview
The
Department of Special Education, Foundations, and Research in the
College of Education at East Carolina University (ECU) is eagerly
seeking applicants and nominations for a tenure-track, nine-month,
full-time faculty position available August 15, 2022. ECU is the
largest producer of special education graduates in North Carolina
and holds CEC accreditation in all special education programs at
both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 2021, Study.com
ranked ECU the Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs in Special
Education. Rank and salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
Job Duties
Responsibilities include
teaching undergraduate and/or graduate K-12 special education
courses (i.e., adapted curriculum/extended content standards
undergraduate, low-incidence disability graduate, and service
classes offered to general education teacher candidates) on campus
and/or online via distance education delivery; supervising
practicum experiences and internships; engaging in an active
research and publication agenda including grant writing; and
providing service to the university, community, and profession.

Minimum Education/Experience
Doctoral
degree in special education; 2-3 years of teaching students
receiving extended standards instruction in a K-12 setting;
documented experience in college teaching of face-to-face and/or
on-line courses; and eligibility for NC Teacher Licensure.
Candidates with Ph.D. or Ed.D. conferred at the time of initial
appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor.
ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the
probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the
terminal degree conferred prior to your first reappointment.
Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from
appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or
Regulation
Current or Eligibility for NC Teacher
License.
Preferred Experience, Skills,
Training/Education
Preference given to those with 3
years of teaching students receiving extended standards instruction
in K-12 setting and to those with both college face to face and
on-line teaching experience. Candidates with expertise related to
populations receiving extended standards instruction: (1)
transition for K-12, (2) post-secondary higher education
opportunities, (3) general curriculum access, (4) collaborative
work with public schools and/or (5) learners who are culturally and
linguistically underrepresented.
