Apple Technology Specialist



Finger Lakes Community College is affiliated with The State University of New York (SUNY) and is currently recruiting for an Apple Technology Specialist at our main campus in Canandaigua, New York.

General Functions: The Apple Technology Specialist’s primary focus is to support and maintain desktop systems for employees as well as those student systems provided. In addition, the Specialist provides operational support for all Desktop and Computing resources as required by the Director of Information Systems. The position is responsible for ensuring up-to-date and secure software loads and timely, responsive user support. It also is responsible for developing and deploying desktop software loads, maintaining a program of consistent operating system and application software updates, and providing effective, ongoing virus and malware protection. The Apple Systems Specialist provides direct user support, desktop troubleshooting and training and consulting in the use of typical desktop applications.

Qualifications :

Educational Background: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a computer-related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: Experience with the installation, configuration and support of Apple computer systems that have macOS as the operating system, iOS, iPadOS required. Experience with Apple’s Mobile Deployment Management platform (MDM) required. Deployment of macOS along with the deployment of software and system settings is required. Two years experience supporting Apple desktop systems/servers in a mixed Windows/Windows Server environment required. Experience with digital certificates and deployment of same required.

Specific Responsibilities:

A. Apple Technology Implementation, Maintenance, and Operations

  1. Designs Apple desktop software loads, plans system upgrades and ensures appropriate system configuration for employee and student desktop systems, laptops, mobile devices, and other college-owned desktop systems provided for non-instructional student use.
  2. Supports a program of software updates and virus protection utilizing JAMF and other relevant tools.
  3. Participates in planning and deployment of system replacement and upgrade efforts


B. User Support, Training, and Troubleshooting

  1. Designs and provides access to a desktop user training program through direct delivery of workshops, one-on-one user consulting, and utilization of external training resources.

  2. Responds to Help Desk assistance requests as needed to provide direct desktop troubleshooting or user support.

  3. Assists as needed in support efforts for instructional and student computing services.



C. Desktop and Mobile Enterprise IT Initiatives

  1. Assists the Director of Information Systems as needed in maintaining essential desktop computing services.
  2. Functions as a member of the Information Technology Team for department wide operations.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

  3. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds across office for various needs.
