The Department of Economics at St. Lawrence University invites applications for up to two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level, beginning August 2022. We seek candidates who teach and conduct research in finance/financial economics and are prepared to teach courses in corporate finance, investments, and upper-level finance electives appropriate to the candidate’s expertise. The successful candidates will help launch the University’s new finance major, a rigorous financial economics major taught within a liberal arts context. The typical teaching assignment is 3 courses per semester, usually limited to 2 preparations per semester and 3 for the year.
The Department of Economics consists of 12 members covering a broad range of fields and interests. We are committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship in a diverse liberal arts environment. The University supports faculty members through start-up funds, conference (research and pedagogy) travel funds, internal grants for research as well as support for student research and teaching assistants. Upon the successful completion of a third-year review, faculty are granted a pre-tenure sabbatical and the opportunity to apply for internal, donor-funded research grants.
Both the University and Economics Department are committed to diversity among its faculty, staff and students. Such a commitment ensures an atmosphere that is diverse and complex in ways that are intellectually and socially enriching for the entire campus community. Applications by members of all underrepresented groups, as well as from individuals with experience teaching or working in a multicultural environment, are encouraged. St. Lawrence University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. (See the diversity statement at: http://www.stlawu.edu/president/statement-diversity.)
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Economics is preferred but ABDs near completion may be considered.
For consideration, candidates must complete the following two-part application process:
- Submit a cover letter, curriculum vita, evidence of teaching
effectiveness, a sample of research, a diversity statement on how
your teaching, research, and/or service contribute to a diverse and
inclusive academic environment, and 3 confidential letters of
recommendation at aeaweb.org/joe/cand.php.
- Applicants must also complete an online application at https://employment.stlawu.edu.
For full consideration, applications should be received by December 1, 2021. Applications submitted after this date will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled. Questions about the position may be directed to Dr. Brian Chezum, Search Chair, at chezum@stlawu.edu.
All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
