The Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications at the University of South Florida invites applications for the Jordan Zimmerman Endowed Professorship in Advertising with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2022. We seek candidates with records of distinction in advertising who will contribute directly to the mission of the Zimmerman School and enhance the School's undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate will be an engaged advertising teacher-scholar who has established relationships with industry partners and/or organizations or evidence they can build such relationships. The ideal candidate must also be able to provide guidance to program development, effectively teach and mentor students, and serve in a leadership capacity to advance strategic initiatives of the School.

The Jordan Zimmerman Endowed Professorship in Advertising is a 9-month, full-time, tenured position at an appointed rank of Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution in advertising, media studies, mass communications, strategic communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field; a clearly defined and active research agenda; and an established reputation as a distinguished advertising scholar. The successful candidate must have the ability and qualifications to teach undergraduate and graduate classes and supervise master's theses and professional projects. Advertising industry and academic leadership experience as well as a record of or potential for extramural funding are desired qualifications.

The Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications is the recipient of a major gift from alumnus Jordan Zimmerman, designed to create and deliver cutting-edge advertising curricula to approximately 800 students served by 21 full-time faculty members. The School offers a B.S in Integrated Public Relations and Advertising (IPRA) and a M.S. in Advertising. The ZSAMC also offers a B.A. in Mass Communications focused on digital news and production and a M.A. in Mass Communications or Strategic Communication Management. The Zimmerman School partners with the College of Business for the "ZAP" 4+1 accelerated B.S./M.A. in Business Advertising and with the College of the Arts for an undergraduate Certificate in Visualization Design.

The Zimmerman School's location in Tampa, Florida - the 13th largest media market in the United States - offers opportunities for internships and career advancement in a diverse and thriving community within a booming business and technology corridor. Zimmerman School students participate annually in more than 100 internships in Tampa Bay and beyond. On campus, student clubs, including the Ad Club, Walter E. Griscti Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Florida Public Relations Association, and the Radio Television Digital News Association provide opportunities to network with professionals in business, non-profit, and government organizations. Our students train in a state-of-the-art virtual production studio, produce award-winning broadcast news shows that air on the local PBS affiliate, and participate in a student-run advertising and public relations agency that represents local to global clients. Zimmerman School graduate students conduct research and create professional projects that enhance their professional expertise and prepare them for continued graduate study. The Zimmerman School is also an academic member of the American Academy of Advertising Agencies, providing faculty and students with access to an exclusive, comprehensive array of advertising industry research tools, reports and databases.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution in advertising, media studies, mass communications, strategic communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field; a clearly defined and active research agenda; and an established reputation as a distinguished advertising scholar. Must meet University criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advertising industry and academic leadership experience as well as a record of or potential for extramural funding.
