The Faculty of Education
HKU has been involved in teacher education since 1917, and the Faculty of Education was established in 1984. The Faculty of Education is forward-looking and world leading, ranking fifth globally in Education (THE 2021). It has assumed an important role in educational research and professional training as a major provider of teacher education programmes and has contributed significantly to education policy and development in Hong Kong with its strong expertise in policy analysis and curriculum development. The Faculty was also the first in Hong Kong to offer degree programmes that train speech therapists and audiologists for the local community. The Position
Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer (holding the title of Director for Technology and Infrastructure Development) in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 508738), to commence on January 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree or above in Education Technology or a relevant discipline, with at least 7 years’ post-qualification experience in teaching and e-learning related staff professional development in tertiary institutions and/or secondary schools. Preference will be given to applicants with a professional teaching qualification and/or doctoral degree in a relevant field, with extensive experience in technology enhanced learning, learning management systems, learning analytics, e-portfolios and digital resource development.

The appointee will lead the Faculty’s e-Learning Team and the Technology and Infrastructure Development Office, teach courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and take up high-level administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  1. leading the development of strategic e-learning plans in support of the academic development goals of the Faculty;
  2. identifying and implementing the pedagogical and technical support infrastructure necessary for the realisation of the Faculty’s e-learning plan;
  3. organising/facilitating e-learning related professional development and sharing among academic staff in the Faculty;
  4. advising on and supervising the implementation of the suitable digital infrastructure, as well as learning and productivity technologies in the Faculty for research, teaching, knowledge exchange, and administration.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
