About the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

The Drexel University Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is dedicated to the education of students in the areas of design, media and the performing and visual arts. The Westphal College offers 17 undergraduate and eight graduate majors, housed in award-winning, technologically enhanced facilities, and taught by distinguished faculty who have worked at the top of their fields. The College values a studio approach that incorporates six months of required co-op work experience for all undergraduate students. Cinema & Television is one of seven departments in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, working closely with the Departments of Digital Media, Performing Arts, and Arts & Entertainment Enterprise.

Job Summary

The Department of Cinema & Television seeks applicants for the Graduate Program in Television & Media Management with expectations for inspiring teaching, current industry expertise, and acute attention to diversity, equity and inclusion as they relate to the future of the media landscape. We are seeking candidates with a track record of accomplishment in the multi-platform industry. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to a rigorous and innovative academic program that addresses the many technological and market evolutions impacting all aspects of content delivery that prepare graduates for successful outcomes in a wide range of employment opportunities. Preferred candidates will be eager to mentor the future leaders in this field, connecting these young professionals to current decision makers to build upon the strong networking aspect of the master’s program.

The Graduate Program in Television & Media Management offers two graduate degrees: the MS in Television & Media Management and a dual MS/MBA. The curriculum specializes in shaping the next generation of leadership within television and media organizations responsible for multi-platform media content in all its forms. The program combines academic experience in courses such as Audience Measurement, Programming, Media Law, Media Sales, Money and the Media, Emerging TV Technology, Media Ethics, and Current Industry Trends, along with networking opportunities, webinars, expert speaker series, internships, and other methods.

This full-time, non-tenure-track appointment anticipates areas of teaching including but not limited to subscription streaming services, pay-per-view, web video platforms, single-channel websites and apps, online cable or satellite replacement services, broadcast channels, and cable. The position requires teaching up to 27 credits, as well as service to the program, department, college, and university. Teaching load will be distributed over nine months of the year during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters.

Founded in 2004, The Paul F. Harron Graduate Program in Television & Media Management (TVMM) draws diverse students, including Fulbright Scholars, professionals already working in the television and media industry, and those still searching for their career path entry, from around the world and across the US. Essential Functions
  • The successful candidate will be an individual with comprehensive industry knowledge and extensive contacts.
  • He or she will have the ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment while teaching courses primarily on campus.
  • The position will also include mentoring students in industry networking, advising students on thesis or capstone projects, assisting with program marketing and recruitment, and representation on college and university committees.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • This is an opportunity for an accomplished television and media industry professional with teaching experience to share his or her passion for the field with highly motivated faculty and students.
  • The ideal candidate will have management/leadership experience (minimum of 5 years) in the multi-platform television and media industry, college-level teaching experience (guest lecturing, adjunct or full-time) and an MS, MA or MBA in a related field.
  • We are seeking someone with knowledge of the systems and segments of the media industry, including, but not limited to any of the following areas: multiple distribution platforms (OTA, OTT/streaming, social, MVPDs), media sales and revenue generation, law and regulation, audience analytics, media planning, and programming.
Preferred Qualification
  • College-level teaching experience (guest lecturing, adjunct or full-time) and an MS, MA or MBA in a related field.
