The Office of Undergraduate Studies invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Student Success and Transformative Experiences, Office of Undergraduate Studies. From admission to graduation, the units of the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Utah provide every student with an exceptional educational experience that empowers them to lead transformational lives wherever their educational and professional futures take them.
This Associate Dean position reports to the Sr. Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies. They are a member of the Undergraduate Studies Executive Leadership Team. The position is a 100% appointment in Undergraduate Studies as the Associate Dean will oversee a team of current (and future) units that contribute to the University of Utah’s campus collaborations on student success. The transformative experiences across the U’s undergraduate education make the University of Utah a leading model in American higher education.
The primary responsibilities for the Associate Dean are
to:
• Contribute to ongoing innovation in student
success and the transformative experiences of every University of
Utah student
- Lead transparent, purposeful, and effective collaborations for all students’ success through interventions, including, but not limited to, peer education, academic coaching, leadership curriculum, and learning communities
- Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion across reporting units
- Collaborate with reporting unit heads to develop the cross-unit synergies, funding opportunities, and events programming and initiatives
- Liaise with University-level administration at the direction of the SAVP and Dean and act as deputy at their request
- Actively participate in the national conferences and other
professional organizations
• Work collaboratively with deans, chairs, faculty, staff, and students throughout campus, the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) and beyond to facilitate holistic student success through the U’s distinctive undergraduate education
• Engage in proactive planning regarding unit budgets and programming - Contribute to a newly-formed, dynamic Undergraduate Studies Executive Leadership team
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. (or
applicable terminal degree) in Higher Education, Educational
Leadership, Student Affairs, or an interdisciplinary academic
field
• Evidence of 5+ years of impactful leadership in student
success and undergraduate education administration
- A record of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in
teaching, research, and service
• Experience leading initiatives development in undergraduate education and student success - Experience in securing external funds to support innovative
programs and/or research
• Ability to design and implement new programs in a university setting
• Ability to implement and interpret assessment for understanding students’ experiences and outcomes for program improvement
• Experience mentoring a team of staff and faculty in administrative capacity within the higher education context
