Job Responsibilities-

  1. Plant, fertilize and water trees, shrubs, flowers and grass. Maintain plants by pruning, trimming and weeding using both hand and power tools. Edge shrub beds and trees and apply mulch as instructed.
  2. Mow lawns using both walk behind and ride on mowers. Use string trimmers and backpack blowers to maintain grounds. Rake and remove leaves from lawns and beds as instructed.
  3. Perform snow removal to include shoveling stairs and entryways, plowing roads and sidewalks and applying ice melt.
  4. Operate mini compactors to collect trash, recycling and compost from campus facilities and transport it the local transfer facility.
  5. Pick up litter and debris from campus grounds.
  6. Assist with the maintenance of campus grounds, walkways, roads and parking lots as needed using a variety of light equipment and vehicles.
  7. Assist in the servicing, maintenance, painting and minor repair of equipment.
  8. Assist with the care of athletic fields and event setups as needed.
  9. Report to work outside of normally scheduled hours when requested to perform tasks.


Qualifications-

High school diploma and a minimum of 2 years experience performing groundskeeping tasks and operating light grounds or construction equipment. Possession of a valid Driver’s License and adherence to the requirements set forth by the Office of Risk Management. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also in large groups. Ability to operate a variety of equipment such as walk behind mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, bed edgers and mini compactors. Ability to lift 60 pounds, climb a 6 foot ladder and work in adverse weather conditions.

Work Environment-

The work of the incumbent will be carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor and outdoor environment. The incumbent will be required to operate various pieces of equipment that can be hazardous if not operated correctly. The incumbent will at times be exposed to inclement weather conditions and may also be exposed to dirt, grease, lubricants, and fumes. The incumbent will be responsible for utilizing the appropriate safety equipment such as eye and ear protection, as well as special clothing and footwear. The incumbent will be required to bend and lift, move and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and work at various times during the day and night dependent upon emergencies.
