Position Summary:
The Utility Worker/Driver is responsible for providing exceptional customer service at Terrace Dining Hall through maintaining seating areas, back-of-house work areas, equipment, and materials. The Utility Worker/Driver also receives merchandise, assists with inventories, stocks, and transports goods on and off-campus.
Supervision:
This position reports to the Manager and Assistant Manager of Terrace Dining Hall.
Responsibilities:
- Service the dining room, and aid in cleaning and sanitizing tables and chairs as needed throughout meal periods.
- Sweep, mop, and remove trash, recycling, and compost from all unit areas as needed and during assigned times.
- Operate a baler.
- Receive, lift, move, store, issue, count, sort, and weigh items on requisitions and invoices.
- Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment.
- Fill orders and issue supplies from stock and rotate stock to ensure freshness.
- Move and transport materials and supplies amongst units or across campus using hand equipment or College vehicles.
- Assist with other unit tasks such as taking temperatures, providing customer service, filling ice machines, and working catered events.
- Communicate often, clearly, and professionally with co-workers and management.
- Greet guests with a warm, friendly demeanor.
- Provide exceptional customer service for all guests.
- Uphold all required safety, service, and hygiene protocols and adjust practices to meet College and state regulations.
- Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and respectful Ithaca College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and previous experience in a restaurant or other relevant establishment and working knowledge of food operations.
- Ability to adhere to all food preparation and service standards set by Ithaca College Dining Services staff.
- New York State driver’s license with no major driving violations.
- Pass an Ithaca College driver safety records check.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service while working effectively and respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and some holidays.
- Food handling and food safety skills and allergen knowledge.
The Utility Worker/Driver completes work within an accessible, safe, indoor, and occasional outdoor environment. Long periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary. Employees will be issued and/or required to wear slip-resistant shoes.
