Emporia State University is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of the Academic Center for Excellence and Success (ACES) in Emporia, KS. The Assistant Director is a full-time, year-round, staff position, which reports to the Director of ACES. The position often requires work hours that match the center’s hours of operation (ex. 10am-7pm).

Located in William Allen White Library on the ESU campus, ACES exists to enhance the academic success of ESU students by providing free peer tutoring, embedded tutoring for specific classes, writing and research assistance, and individual and small group academic workshops and success coaching to meet the academic support needs of our diverse student population. The Assistant Director of ACES supports the Director with facilitation and administration of processes and strategies to successfully meet student needs and run ACES.  Responsibilities can include but are not limited to coordination of CRLA training events, development and dissemination of marketing and promotional materials, administrative duties regarding purchasing and budget reconciliation, and data tracking.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Participate in occasional campus committees and other meetings pertinent to ACES and/or ESU student success.
  • Provide leadership to the personnel and programs of ACES. Provide assessment, performance feedback, coaching, and mentoring for ACES tutors.
  • Plan and organize CRLA trainings for the ACES student team, including presenting on training topics.

Programming Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the Director, assess ACES initiatives and services to ensure programming is enhancing student success. Create, implement, and coordinate new efforts to increase student success, especially for changing demographics, by utilizing exemplary practices in higher education.
  • Meet with students for which ACES receives an early alert notice. Provide success coaching as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Process purchases, student contracts, timesheets and reconcile the budget.
  • Work with the ESU Foundation funds on budget reimbursements.
  • Schedule and track ACES services.
  • Maintain CRLA certification status of employees and prepare CRLA renewal application and associated reporting.

Marketing Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the Director and student staff, support marketing of ACES initiatives and services. Collaborate with Marketing and Media to develop and maintain a social media presence for ACES.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, self-motivated individual with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a keen attention to detail, and an excellent collaborator who knows how to work independently and as a team player to achieve goals related to the ESU mission and strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with college students
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently
  • Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills
  • Experience with budgeting and reconciliation 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Two or more years’ experience working with college students regarding academic success
  • Experience with Banner
  • Knowledge of Academia or other tutor tracking software
  • Bilingual

The salary for this position is $36,000. This position also qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package.
